“Friendly staff,amazing breakfast, nice room,would stay again”

“Went via Agoda and got a very good deal for myself and my Wife for an overnight stop. The pub is steeped in history. Dickens, Darwin and more modern 'celebrities' have stayed here in the past. The room we stayed at was very basic, but clean. Shower over the bath had a strong flow and was nice and hot when needed. Twin beds were comfortable, and being an extremely hot day, it was great to have a fan included in the room. A hair dryer was also included. TV was rather tiny, but worked. This Hotel is extremely old and the decor needs updating. There is no breakfast/food facility but across the road there are a few cafes if breakfast is a requirement. Car parking was £5 from arrival to leaving (by 11am). I would stay here again, but be aware the decor needs updating etc. Staff were fine, no issues. Amazing location for exploring Shrewsbury. Our room was quiet (around the back, away from the main road). For the price and location, this hotel must be a hot contender.”

“Stayed two nights at The Bull. Great little authentic pub, staff lovely. Room No1 was a good size , bed linen really soft . No hairdryer but luckily I’d brought my own.( I’m sure if asked one would have been provided) The corners and edges of the room need to been cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Bathroom really needs attention. Ceiling needs cleaning and painting. The shower attachment needs replacing as does the shower curtain with a proper door. The tiles in the bathroom need cleaning with domestic to removed the black grout . Aside from all above, we enjoyed our break, beer and wine served was good and a reasonable price. ”

“The room was fine and the bed was very comfortable. It was also quiet overnight (apart from some other residents making a bit of noise for a short while at 4 a.m. The staff member I spoke to when I booked in friendly and helpful. The issue for me was the shower, as I slipped when I tried to get out (it had a step up into it, which made it precarious getting out.) As result, my upper left arm went into the metal door frame. I incurred a large bruise to my arm as a result, which is taking a while to heal. up. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to report it as I needed to go out time to report it as I had to go out. The bathroom itself was also narrow and the sink tap was too excessive for the sink itself (plus the towel rail is narrow.) I wouldn't necessarily advise against staying in that room, however I would advise exercising caution using the shower. ”

“We have family in Shrewsbury and the Lion and Pheasant is our hotel of choice when we visit. The staff are all helpful, friendly and warm. Rooms are spotless with good quality furniture, linen, super comfy beds and pillows. Good showers and well designed for relaxation. This time I stayed with my mother, we had cosy double rooms for single use which were perfect. Others have said they found those at the front of the building noisy but as we come from London we didn't find that. We ate in the restaurant twice. On one evening they were extremely busy and there was also a wedding going on and the meal was not as good as previous dining experiences in the hotel. I would imagine the kitchen was over-stretched. The scallop starter and rhubarb souffle desert were excellent but the mains all suffered from being kept warm which impacted on quality. Our other meal was on Sunday evening when it was quieter and was much better. Breakfast on both days was great with local, high quality products and charming service. The lion and pheasant will continue to be our Hotel of choice when we visit. One word of caution the entrance to the car park tests your nerve it is very, very narrow! “The room was really modern and clean with staff that were eager to help. The breakfast was really good and the waiter asking us if we'd like more drinks (after having juice and coffee). The sound insulation was to a good level to keep the road noise low, although if you are a light sleeper this may be an issue.”
