“Easy to find, a little outdated but great for a stop over or short drive to the airport.”

“The Sweet Chestnut is situated not far from the motorway, with Fife Leisure Park, filled with lots of eating places, so is handy for travellers as a stopover on their journey. The rooms are clean and spacious., and the bed is large and comfy. Tea and coffee sachets are provided, although only 2 teabags. Could maybe provide a couple more for those on an overnight stay. I also think it would make a huge difference if there was a means of contact with reception , either a phone in the rooms, or at the very least , the main entrance to the accommodation block. The accommodation block is a completely seperate building from the restaurant/reception, and if you have any issues, or even just a top up of loo roll, towels or even just teabags, you have to leave one building, and take a short walk along the road to the reception/restaurant building just to request these, then walk all the way back, , which is an inconvenience, especially in the cold, wet winter weather. You can phone on your own mobile to the main public Marstons reservations number, and then select the option to get put through to reception, which is a pain, if it’s just to ask for more teabags. Marstons should really consider installing a reception contact phone within the accommodation building. It would make a huge difference. One thing we do love about the Sweet Chestnut are the fab breakfasts. Although, they should maybe consider putting on another member of staff during the breakfast period, as customers were getting irritated about the time it took either to have their order taken, or for their breakfast to arrive. It was very slow. These points are not complaints, only suggestions from a customers point of view, which would greatly improve their stay. We’ve stayed on 2 occasions now, and apart from those points mentioned, we’ve been happy with our stay ”

“Our experience at the Charlestown Hotel was well below expectations. The service was unresponsive and unhelpful — “no” seemed to be the only word the staff knew. Most of the time, there was no one at the front desk, and with no phone in the room, even basic communication was a challenge. Repeatedly ringing the bell at reception often went unanswered. The facilities were equally lacking: no shampoo, conditioner, or shower gel (only generic handwash), no iron or ironing board, and no air conditioning. The room was uncomfortably hot, and when we asked for a fan, the answer was — unsurprisingly — no. The reception area is tiny, and with no proper access path, you’ll end up dragging your luggage over pebbles and through their restaurant. Overall, an overhyped hotel that fails to deliver on even basic comfort or hospitality. Not recommended, especially if you’re on vacation. ”
