“I booked this hotel as it had great reviews, but they didn't match the reality. The room was clean enough, the WiFi was slow, the bed was too soft, there were loud people banging doors and yelling literally all night long until 6am. In the daylight I could see the parking lot had a lot of trash. Not a very nice place. The staff were friendly, though.”

“I will start by giving the owner credit. After I left, he called me personally and explained that they had experienced communication problems through the online booking platforms. I appreciated the call and his willingness to discuss what happened. Unfortunately, the team did not demonstrate the same level of hospitality during my stay. When I arrived, I had not received the door codes. That issue was handled reasonably well. I sent a text, received a code promptly, and someone showed me to my room. The main problem occurred the next morning. One reason I booked this property was the promise of a good breakfast before a long drive, rather than the standard breakfast offered by a chain hotel. Another guest and I were downstairs trying to determine how breakfast worked. He had received a link to submit a request. I had never received the link. In practice, that did not seem to matter because nothing appeared to be happening anyway. I texted the staff, and after approximately 40 minutes of back-and-forth communication, they finally sent me the link. By that point, I had given up and needed to leave. This is a property with only three guest rooms. Communicating with guests about breakfast should not be complicated. A simple message asking what each guest would like and when they would like it would solve most of the problem. Even if the kitchen or staff were unavailable unexpectedly, the property could have arranged breakfast at a local restaurant and covered the cost. The response of “with all due respect” when I raised the communication problem was also a poor way to close the conversation. It came across as defensive rather than service-oriented. I suggested to the owner that a printed information sheet or QR-code system in each room would be an easy improvement. At present, the property appears to be struggling with both its technology and its customer service. The concept has potential, but the operating execution needs significant improvement. ”
