“We travelled as a group of six and, unfortunately, there were a few aspects of our stay that were disappointing. The biggest issue for me was the communication around our arrival. I contacted the person handling our booking to let her know that we would be checking in late, at around 19:05, and that we were on our way. I was also trying to confirm the room allocations for our group of six so that, when we arrived, everyone would know which room they were staying in and the check-in process could run smoothly. My first call was unanswered. I then sent a text but received no response. When I called again, the person handling the phone was extremely rude and unprofessional and would cut me off while I was trying to speak. She told me not to call because she had “knocked off” and to speak to a housekeeper instead. The contact number I used was the number provided for the property and available to guests through *** proper telephone etiquette is non-negotiable in the hospitality industry. I understand that staff have working hours and that everyone has a right to finish their shift, but that does not justify speaking to a guest rudely or dismissively. Even when a staff member has “knocked off”, there is a professional way to communicate this and direct the guest to the appropriate person. Basic courtesy and professionalism should remain the standard, regardless of how busy, tired or frustrated someone may be. If a contact number is provided online, particularly for a property that accepts late arrivals, there should also be a clear after-hours process so guests know who to contact if they are travelling late, delayed or need assistance. Another concern was the noise at night. Other guests were extremely loud and kept us awake until around 5 a.m. At times, it sounded as though they were right outside our window. It was very disturbing. I cannot say for certain whether all the noise came from this property or the property next door, but better noise management would certainly help. On a positive note, the security and housekeeping teams were friendly, helpful and welcoming, which we appreciated. Overall, there were some good aspects to our stay, but the communication, lack of basic amenities like tea and coffee, which we had to request and excessive noise significantly affected our experience.”
