“Resulting in the entire campground evacuating after staying just the one of our two booked nights. We booked a cabin with bunks which ending up having 8 beds (4 up and down) in the bedroom with reasonable little storage books for each bed and one free standing wardrobe, plus a fold out bed via the 2.5 seater couch in the separate kitchen/dining. For myself 6 foot 2and my daughters aged 6 and 14 the bunk beds were comfy and I had no trouble stretching out. A couple with 8 kids could stay in one of these and still close the bedroom door for privacy and/or when young ones are sleeping earlier. The website said to take bedding. Including sheets which we did, but there was no need as these were supplied. No ensuite to these cabins but the toilets, showers, large common kitchen and lounge areas plus TV and games rooms were 20m away so basically next to us. The cabin kitchen had a TV, kettle, stovetop, fridge with small freezer and sufficient kitchen utensils and pots to cook large meals. The kitchen opened on to a large deck and 8 deck chairs were supplied to sift about nonchalantly with no worries. My concern for the cyclone was dismissive at best. If you have young kids this place is for you. Even the 14 year old enjoyed it. Pool with slide, hot pools, trikes to ride, playground and alternatives for wet weather with friendly staff that are helpful despite the size of the camp they care for making it all round a place we want to return too. Which we will as the cyclone sent us home with a nights credit to be used at a later date for us and the friends that also had planned to stay another night. At first I thought the cost was high for the room but considering the number of people it could house I could take 3 times as many people for just a few extra bucks. Overall a fun, well planned and supplied campground catered to families and kids with friendly staff for budget pricing. We will be back for sure. The incoming cyclones howling winds uprooted trees and caused havoc on the roads during its thrashing of the region for a 24 hour period after we left. Whilst that ended our holiday early, having a blokes name it was much quieter and caused far less damage than the ex. ”

“Left Te Kaha that morning and continued around East Cape to Gisborne, back to Opotiki through the gorge and then on to Ohope Beach where on the day before southbound heading to Te Kaha we were blown away by the view. At the end of a long and interesting drive, to be able to walk across the road into some suf for a play it was very relaxing. A quick shower after and up to the village for a great meal at the Mexican themed spot and a very nice meal was had. Coffee the next morning again from the village was very gratefully received and left the sun and surf behind for the drive back to Auckland.....”
