We asked to book in a hour earlier but when we got there no one to let us in was standing a half an hour outside. Pool was dirty. Partner didn't feel comfortable with the sliding door not opening and closing properly. Maintenance is poor. Host didn't answer calls or WhatsApp. It's our second time there. Check out was cold and they didn't even take in consideration the fact that we stood outside for half an hour before letting us in. We kept quiet and left.

So looking for a quiet space to just unwind and clear my mind Mauya was not the best choice. there are renovations happening which leaves the yard looking clustered and messy, the hot water in the shower goes up and down with temp, the door rattles constantly, the room i was in had the jojo tanks close by and there was constant noise, the wall switches are loose, no liquid soap provided, 1 towel for 2 guests and constant noise throughout the night coming from the yard area didnt make the peace and tranquiltiy i was looking for a reality. the beds are very comfy i must say .

My review is layered. Let's start with the Good, then the bad and then what really needs to improve: The Good: Mauya is in a quiet suburb called Mabille Park just off van Riebeck street. It is a waling tourist's paradise and we often took strolls in the area. Bnb is clean with daily cleaning by two dedicated staff Frankie and Shakiera The Bad: As a self-catering facility, things need to be as optimum as possible for the guests. Enough equipment is vital. They need to get proper cutlery sets for their guests, this is also impacting the aesthetics, the look and feel and overall experience of the guesthouse. Guests struggled to find spoons and knives to use. Dire Improvement Required: Must have notification for guests to be mindful and respectful of other guests with regards to noise control. Notices should be placed in each room. Finally, It should be advertised as a location away from all tourist attractions - this BnB is not centrally located and we often had complaints from Uber drivers that it was just to far out of the way. Ideally, it can be advertised as a home away from home, escape the city or something similar. All in All, as I embark on a year of travel, Mauya as the first guesthouse gets a 3from me

The only plus here was the staff who tried to bend over backwards to rectify the concerns.
