I was looking forward to stay at the "Double Room with Patio" with a beautiful view of the sound, only to be told on arrival by resort staff that the room does not exist. Instead I was allocated a room half below ground level with a sad view of the back of another building with noisy machinery equipment. The Portage was not interested in taking responsibility for what is advertised on Agoda and they blamed Agoda for the allegedly misleading listing for a room that doesn't exist. Given that the area was fully booked out during the holiday season, I had no alternative to book elsewhere with a good view. 2 months of anticipation ultimately led to a disappointing introduction to the sounds.

Needs alot of work and upgrades, certainly the rd access, rooms and facilities. Not alot of choice on menu if u were staying for more than a couple of days. Expensive for what u get and we were apparently upgraded...only difference was view. No fridge in room, had to get another from another room to put in. And for what u get on ur plate in size meals for prices is really abit up there also. But what food we did have was ok, wasnt great but it was ok. I hope if we ever return after another 30yrs as i work there that long ago that its got better than it is, cos not really alot has change, just alittle extra here and there. They took the best part was the man made hotpools out...and the rooms werent alot different in what i stay or lived in back then...more garden and a pool has been put in...hopefully they do something better with it. ..some bar staff had no idea what they were doing drinks wise...! And didnt know there beverages, nor a great selection and ran out if beer on tap... They had a snapper bar and grill eatery that wasnt up and running so limit in food and choice....that would of been awesome if that was still running so we were told by some locals. But closed it and apparently not reopening it, which is differently a detriment to the place...only thing is where it is located down the sounds...! And if ur paying these prices to stay and eat, u not gonna wanna spend money on the boat ride too..! Starts to get abit up there. Good luck to them, i hope to see some improvements in the future.
