We had a fantastic stay at Aquila Private Game Reserve. What impressed us most was the well-structured itinerary; the entire program is designed to ensure you get the most out of your stay without any wasted time. From the seamless check-in and delicious buffet lunch to the exciting afternoon game drive, every transition was smooth and well-timed. It was the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. Highly recommended for those who value a professionally managed and hassle-free safari!

We stayed at Aquila recently with overseas guests who didn’t have time to go further north. While 1 night is definitely all you need, that said, we thoroughly enjoyed it and would like to commend Aquila on what they are achieving. Our guests were thrilled as they had no comparison to make. Staff were amazing and facilities very good. Guides knowledgeable and enthusiastic (thank you Josh). Overall pleasantly surprised.

We had a very enjoyable and memorable stay at the Aquila Game Reserve. The logistics were well organized from hotel transfers to accommodation and game drives. The amenities included buffet lunch, dinner, breakfast and two game drives. The activities were well-structured. Upon arrival, we were given welcome drinks. The room was spacious and comfortable with a complimentary wine. It featured an air conditioning unit, fireplace, safety deposit box, bathtub and outdoor shower. The balcony provided a perfect place to enjoy the natural surroundings and the view of the mountain ranges. The buffet offered a wide selection of food including fruits, vegetables, meat and desserts. Our guide was informative and seeing four of the Big Five up close was an extraordinary and memorable experience. Rain ponchos and blankets were provided. Overall, we had a wonderful time and a fun experience.

We visited Aquila in Feb 2026 as part of our honeymoon and had a mixed experience. Despite informing the team in advance since September 2025, there were no honeymoon arrangements on arrival and we were initially given a twin-bed room instead of a double. We also emailed about this but did not receive a response, which was disappointing for a special occasion. Because of heavy traffic from Cape Town we reached around 5 pm and unfortunately missed the welcome drinks (only till 4 pm), lunch (12:30–4 pm) and the afternoon game drive at 4:30 pm. This wasn’t the resort’s fault, but it did dampen the overall experience. The lodge room was comfortable with the basic amenities, but the AC in our room was not working properly and was leaking water, which was a letdown. On the safari side, our vehicle broke down twice — both times inside the lion enclosure, once in the morning and once in the evening — which did raise concerns about vehicle upkeep. That said, the guides were excellent: knowledgeable, sharp at spotting animals and engaging throughout. We were fortunate to see 4 of the Big 5 (missing only the leopard) along with giraffes, ostriches, baboons and more, which was a real highlight. The buffet meals were excellent with a wide selection, and the pool and sunbed area were lovely to relax in. The staff were warm, attentive and genuinely tried to help wherever possible. Overall, Aquila feels more like a polished, large, curated private reserve experience rather than an immersive wild safari like Kruger or Kenya. Good for a convenient and comfortable wildlife outing near Cape Town.
