Centrally located, district 7 hotel, with plush & elegant colonial style interior decoration in a very nicely refurbished mansion. The rooms felt slightly run down, with insufficient electric outlets for phone charging, but generally comfortable. The rooms were nice and cold when we arrived - a very welcome treat from the hot weather. Beds were comfortable, selection of bathroom amenities were good and fragrant. Breakfast choices were interesting; the sri lankan option must be pre-ordered the night before. Continental breakfast is average; croissants were strangely bready and chewy, rather than traditionally crispily flaky. The dining room table cloths at breakfast were stained & candles were left burned from the night before and not refreshed with new tealights; seemed like they were not checked before breakfast service. Aside from these factors that could bring the hotel rating to a solid 5-6 stars, the service staff were generally friendly, with some having worked there for 10-15 years, & sharing anecdotes of them meeting the then Prince & Princess of Wales when they stayed in the hotel’s Royal Suites in 2013. Very sad to hear that the hotel will close down next year in September 2027… but we hope that it remains open for much longer!

The property is elegant and beautifully located but its style seems a bit heavy these days and the atmosphere is somewhat stuffy. I think there are other places in Colombo which would offer more value for money. I was a bit taken aback that they didn’t even allow me a 30 minute late check out. however the breakfast was delicious and the goodies in the room on point.

Bit grimy and rundown. More suitable for a dirty weekend than a family holiday. Food was good though.

This is a stunningly beautiful historical mansion with interesting artistic design choices throughout. The staff was beyond helpful, so kind and solicitious. The neighborhood is not as walkable as we had hoped, but tuk tuk transportation is readily available to go anywhere in Colombo. I highly recommend this hotel!
