I booked this accommodation to attend a wedding reception, fully aware that check-in was only after 14:00. I therefore went straight to the wedding first. However, when my wife went to the reception to check in at around 16h30 , she was met with a very cold and unwelcoming attitude from a lady who identified herself as the Manager. We were told that they were not aware of my booking because they were “too busy” to check online reservations, and as a result, all rooms were fully booked. This was communicated with an I-don’t-care attitude, which was extremely unprofessional. Eventually, we were told they “apologise for the inconvenience” and that we would be referred to their sister lodge instead. It is important to note that people choose accommodation for specific reasons — location, convenience, and planning. Being shifted to another lodge because someone failed to do their job is not acceptable and caused major inconvenience. The alternative accommodation, Hibon Lodge, was actually a pleasant surprise. Their staff were highly professional, welcoming, and the rooms were beautiful. Unfortunately, I was informed that I still had to wake up and return to AVELA Lodge and spa for breakfast, since my original booking (the same one they failed to honour) included breakfast. When we returned for breakfast, the experience was once again disappointing. The bread served was dry, clearly old, as if it had been toasted earlier, stored, and then reheated for guests. The only positive aspect of this entire experience was a particular white lady who genuinely understands how to treat and respect guests. She clearly values visitors and showed professionalism that the rest of the management lacked. Overall, I am highly disappointed and will never recommend this place to anyone. If you are looking for accommodation around Magaliesburg, I strongly advise avoiding this establishment.

I Booked at Avela for the 3rd July, then I noticed I made a mistake on the dates, I texted them and ask Avela to change the date for me which was the 4th July 2026, Desire confirmed that the date has been changed, i asked again on Friday about date change, the confirmed its sorted, we got there Saturday to check in, to my surprise they are fully booked and my date was not updated on the system, how low that is... Nikita connected us to the manager, we spoke to Babalwa and suggested we go to a nearby lodge (Hibon), they work together and we don't have to worry about payment and all that, we got there, the lady welcomed us nicely, we fill in the forms and got the room, there was nothing about the payment, at the time of check out we were told we have to pay, like who did you discuss payment with?🤔 Babalwa lady with a stinking attitude told us Agoda did not pay them, so we have to pay Hibon lodge, we had to pay as its only fair to do so, we slept there at the end of the day, now I am here fighting for my refund between Agoda and Avela, Agoda is helping, Avela is not interested in anything, this business won't go far with this kinda treatment, you are not gonna treat people as if they coming there to ask for a place to crush in, we are paying and we should receive the service we are paying for, I really feel sorry for the owner of this place, if they are not careful they will close this doors very soon, employees lack customer service, lack of proper training. very unprofessional, , they are just sitting there on their phones not worried about what is going on around them. we asked to watch the game, they failed to even connect the TV, no communication or whatsoever, we had to leave because if you cant get it right why not tell the guest that you are failing to deliver, this place don't even deserve a zero rating, I am absolutely disappointed in them and their Manager, they must be learning all this from her.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay. The Manager Veronica went out of her way to make our stay comfortable and even upgraded us. Staff is so friendly and always willing to help.
