On arrival this hotel has the wow factor but after spending a night here it is just another typical large hotel. The checking in process was straightforward but slow and we proceeded to our room on the tenth floor. The first thing we noticed is that there are only three lifts which is not enough for a hotel of this size, on the course of our travels in Europe and Australia there would have been double the number. The room was spacious and well furnished with three chairs which were welcome. The only niggles were that the mattress was very firm for us but that is a personal thing as were the pillows. In the bathroom an escutcheon on the door handle wasn’t fitted due to a loose screw, the screw fell out and we replaced the escutcheon. Our friends who were staying had ordered a cream tea and they asked us to join them, it wasn’t a cream tea as such. There were scones and cream but an assortment of scones, sandwiches and savoury items (* items in total for two people) but sadly very little thought had been put into the choice of items. Quantity is not a replacement for lesser quality items. Breakfast was typical of a good hotel buffet with plenty of choices. The worst part was that I lost the room keys and another set was produced for us BUT the original set were not cancelled. Fortunately after retracing where we had been we found them and they still open our room door. If someone else had found them the key holder had our room number and our surname, this was not acceptable and no apology was given when the front desk was informed.

Room was lovely but bath and cups in bathroom were dirty. Service in Merlin bar was poor for us, but put this down to being busy. Parking overnight 20 something quid was a bit of a shock too. We did have a lovely stay, the grounds are lovely. Hotel staff we spoke to were all friendly and polite. My partner enjoyed his breakfast

Overall our stay has been very pleasant. Although the hotel as a while could do with some modernising there was everything you'd require for a night away. One negative we found was the steam rooms were in each of the changing rooms and on our first day we didn't realise the one in men's was out of order but no one explained to us that they will be swapping the female and male changing rooms the next day so that everyone can use the facility. Staff were really nice and polite although we did wait for our drinks order for 25mins as they forgot to make them which effectively meant we had to delay our dinner booking but that was not a problem. The lady who works up in the coffee shop, makes AMAZING milkshakes and is a ray of sunshine to speak to.

Had a 2 night stay here really enjoyed the grounds and the relaxation atmosphere around the resort Was upsold a upgrade upon checking in my advice stick to what u booked originallly if its too good to be true it usually is. Overall good stay apart from trying to resolve issues with customer relations who were useless.

We stopped here in 2000 2004 and now 20 years later , still on tip of its game , but a few things have disappeared like the "bell boys ' no food after hours and the breakfast buffet does not have the wow factor like it used to, now it's just a run of the mill self service , and self serve coffee machines , think the carparking charge is very expensive at £20 a night bar food restaurants and drinks prices are good for a venue of this type , staff very good , some areas looking a bit tired and massive issue with slow lifts which they were trying to sort
