This is not a 5 star hotel. For some people (including myself), it can be better choice than those expensive luxury hotels. Idealistically designed room for the travelers who need a rest in comfy home mood. Traditional breakfast in the garden was also great.

Years ago I read a book on architect Geoffrey Bawas designs in Sri Lanka. When looking for accommodation in Colombo I read that one of his students designed Highbury House. The online pictures were amazing and it was a no brainer this is where my 20 and 18 year old and I would stay. The pictures don’t do it justice. We loved staying here. It felt like home and I would definitely stay here if I returned to Colombo. It is out of the city, but we aren’t touristy so the tuk tuk rides in and out of the centre gave us a snapshot of Colombo life which is what we love to experience. Also early morning walks around this zone gave experiences of every day suburban life. Amazing architecture, beautiful quaint streets and children arriving early morning to school. Manoji and her husband are beautiful hosts and I’m so thankful they have opened up their home to guests. The house and gardens feel like a tranquil paradise after a day exploring the heat of the city. We had an exceptional breakfast of pancakes, fruit and oatmeal and nuts. The hosts will answer any question you have. It was a great start to our Sri Lankan adventures. Our room was comfortable and it was a dream to live in a Bawa style residence, even if only for two nights.

Best stay ever

Hosts were very helpful and exceptionally hospitable. The spaces are thoughtfully laid out for a hassle free stay and the surrounding gardens and peacefulness was a pleasant surprise, given that the place is centrally located.

Truly enjoyed our stay with Ms Manoji and her husband. They took care of us so well, and the property is so beautiful. Great location, accessible to everywhere. Highly recommend if you’re in Colombo.
