Excellent Beach House
Wonderfully welcoming and friendly owner and staff. Various types of rooms - one has a private kitchen. Three shared toilets for use; shared shower and bath ( even in peak season it was only ever a short waiting time ); outside shower; outside clothesline with hangers; new washing for use; good sized kitchen with everything needed and provided to cook meals ( free ground coffee and tea and other condiments ); great easy system for storing food in a shared fried GW and also other private boxes for storing food. Very clean with air conditioning in each room, I believe ( my single room did ). My bed has a fitted sheet with a cloth type top sheet and soft pillow with pillow cover; side table and lamp and a plug in device using liquid to ward off mosquitos- two windows that open with screens; curtains are light so in summer the daylight is visible in your room from sunrise at 5am ( no problem for me ). Very easy 10-minute walk to Tatado beach; 20-minute walk to Iritahama beach and 30-minute walk to Ohama beach and downtown Shimoda ( 2.7km away ). I met a lot of wonderful people from Japan and overseas - very homely place to stay and totally relax and unwind.

Decent choice for short stays
The house was crafted beautifully, equipped with a full kitchen, dining area and lounge. The location was decent enough, close enough to Tatadohama though atop of a hill. However, there are some issues we faced during our stay. For one, the toilets are definitely insufficient for the number of guests this house can host. There is also only one bathroom for the entire house. Booking the stay with the surf rentals included was also not the most worthwhile for our wallet. Half of our stay was spent surfing in the mornings which was really nice. However, the later half was met with some issues due to an ongoing surf competition at the beach. The beach was closed for the duration of the competition which was 3 days. So although there was an alternative beach to surf at, it just was not the same conditions and we planned our stay with the expectation of being able to surf at Tatadohama. Really was not much we could do, to have to plan around the surf spots and at the same time not knowing about the beach closure in advance.
