“Duin & Kruidberg is undoubtedly a beautiful historic estate, but it's important to know what kind of property you're booking. This is first and foremost a wedding and events venue, not a luxury leisure hotel. During our stay there was a private event every single day, and it was obvious that these functions were the management's priority. Many of the most picturesque areas of the estate were reserved for private events, leaving hotel guests with limited access. We had hoped to book a suite, but they were sold out months in advance, presumably due to the events. As a result, we booked two standard rooms. One had a pleasant view, while the other was a corner room overlooking very little. Given the price point, the room allocation felt inconsistent. The dining experience was disappointing for vegetarians. The restaurant offered just one vegetarian starter and one vegetarian main course, making it clear that catering to international guests with varied dietary preferences is not their strength. The hotel appears to cater primarily to local Dutch event guests rather than international travellers. Even basic conveniences such as international travel adapters were unavailable. For a property positioned in the luxury segment, the facilities are surprisingly limited. There is no swimming pool which is a basic facility even for 3 star today specially if positioning as a wellness resort. Breakfast was a mixed experience. The spread itself was good, particularly the fresh fruit selection. However, the live egg station was disappointing. The chef seemed completely unfamiliar with a simple request for an egg white omelette with tomatoes, onions and chillies. The final dish resembled scrambled eggs that had been hastily shaped into an omelette, which reflected a lack of experience catering to international breakfast preferences. Housekeeping also fell short of expectations. A tray of leftover room service sat in the corridor for two days before we finally complained and had it removed. Used coffee cups in our room were never replaced during servicing, suggesting that housekeeping was only doing the bare minimum. Overall, while the estate itself is attractive and would probably make a lovely venue for weddings or corporate events, I would not recommend it as a destination hotel for international leisure travellers. At this price point, the service, facilities and guest experience simply do not justify the cost. ”
