“So whilst we enjoyed our time at this hotel we did not receive 5 star service nor did the service reflect the price. On arrival the doorman offered to collect our suitcases and check in was very smooth. We had two rooms and whilst they did include antique furniture some of the chairs needed refilling otherwise they are uncomfortable and useless as a chair. The beds were comfy and the bathrooms well appointed and full of character. The free mini bar was a nice touch but no alcohol which is unusual for a 5 star hotel. I did not appreciate finding an item of clothing in the wardrobe left by a previous guest, not the vest first impression. The balcony was small and not large like the images suggested. We wanted to book a table in the restaurant to be told it was fully booked despite us being residents this was very frustrating so we chose to eat in the bar but we're told this was closed however the bar was serving drinks outside which was a nice area. To access it you go through the library which was very beautiful but set up as if ready for a wedding. Service was friendly but a little slow and they did not stock the wine we wanted despite it being on the wine menu. The menu was very limited but the food was very nice. We noticed some proper dining tables so we asked could we sit there but those 30 tables were part of the restaurant that was fully booked and remained empty all night so you had to hunch over a low table which was not ideal. It felt as if the hotel was short staffed which is not what you are paying for. The food was tasty and drinks were good. Despite the issues we didn't feel rushed and the staff tried their best. Breakfast the next day was very odd they encourage you to eat outside on the level down but the buffet is up the stairs behind the mai restaurant as such we chose to eat in the main restaurant which was beautiful but it felt very dark so asked if we could go near the window which wasn't set we were shown two other tables before I offered to move the cutlery myself. Again not what I expect from 5 star. The champagne was bitter but the breakfast was excellent apart from the omelette that had virtually no flavour. Checkout was friendly and efficient. We all really liked the hotel but staffing needs to be improved so the service matches the price and they need to sort out the restaurant being continually booked up to avoid guest disappointment. I'm not sure I would return till these issues were addressed.”
