“This hotel is exceptional for its staff, facilities and location. I received here a very warm welcome. English is spoken if your German is limited like mine. As its name indicates, this hotel is full of art. There is a gallery hosting work by specific artists, and you will find art on display in the corridors and rooms. My room was extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was perfect with good lighting. The buffet breakfast was also excellent. For your bike, there is not only a secure garage, but also a mini workshop to allow you to tighten things or inflate your tyres. The hotel is quite close to the heart of the old town. It is surrounded by a nice garden, and is very quiet at night. This place is highly recommended.”

“I actually could not stay at this hotel as 1) I can only understand all the instructions in German at the door and 2) Being from Australia, I can only travel with a Data SIM card with no phone number valid in Germany. The hotel reception is unstaffed, and the code to obtain your key is only provided by phone. The lady who responds to the phone will not slow down or speak more clearly when you explain that your German is very limited. To my shame, I admit to getting angry after a while as I was tired after a long day riding my bike. I did get help from a first German hotel client who turned up after I had waited for 30 minute outside the hotel, and had sent them a message via Agoda to which I was getting no reply. The First Lady treated me suspiciously as she had never heard of a data only phone SIM, and because all clients seemingly would have received their code by phone. I had received nothing, of course. The whole situation stressed me out, and I walked away. When, after calming down, I gave a second try to obtaining a key to my room, again via the help of other German clients whom I knew from a different hotel, the phone receptionist denied me access to the room saying she was “angry with me”! Yes, it is not always easy to communicate when your 3 years school German date back from 50 years ago. For the sake of giving a positive conclusion to my sad story: there are much friendlier hotels in town, and the hotel clients I met told me that the rooms were great and really well-priced.”
