I did a last minute booking as it was an impromptu trip. The place has an amazing view and parking ( which is a boon ) . It’s a pure vegetarian hotel and the food quality was good . Service not so much . The room I had booked wasn’t available when we came , so we got bumped up .Happy to have that , we checked in . But after that moment , we kept getting calls from FO to change for the next day . Fed up we changed in the morning . FYI - The Kunchengunja Room had a wonderful view and big beds .But that’s about it ! This upgraded room had NO HEATER! After requesting for an heater , we got the smallest heater in the world and of course we had to request another one . Let me tell you it wasn’t effective . In addition , the geyser wasn’t working in one of the bathrooms . I had a cold shower in the freezing cold ! The room we spent the other 2 nights in had a weird smell from the bathroom , I don’t know if it’s the cleaning material or not . But with two small heaters placed ( which we had to request again ) we were able to sleep peacefully . Overall , I wouldn’t recommend the hotel during peak periods as the staff can’t handle the volume and provide proper service .

Istana is 1 of the luxury hotel stay in Darjeeling. Its located in a hight and 1km away from mall road. Though the distance of 1km from Mall road sound easy but actually the road is very high to walk. Also there is no sharing cab going from near the hotel. What 1 can do is either then can walk from hotel to Mall road (road will be slope) and on coming you can book a cab which will take 300rs. Food :- Food is tasty and in good quantity. They also provide complimentary snacks in evening ( I really enjoyed break pakoda with hot chai). Overall food is excellent. View - Everything is view. The stay will provide excellent view in morning and in night. Morning with kanchanjanga mountain view and evening will be city view from the hight. Mind relaxing and breath taking view. If you have personal vehicle then it's awesome because they provide free car parking. Staff are very well behaved. They will take good care of you. Me and my wife really enjoyed our 3 night stay in Istana resort.

Nice place. Away for all the crowd but still accessible by foot to mall road. We enjoyed our stay. Food was good but only vegetarian. The complimentary afternoon tea and snacks was great.

Nice stay. Food quality is very good. View from the hotel is very good. But little more distance from main market area. All staffs are very good .

Istana spa and resorts is a very nice looking accommodation near Mall Road. The reception is in all grandeur and staff are responsive. We were thrilled when we checked in. However, we were left disappointed with the following: 1. The rooms are very dated and have a small manual heater. It takes 2-3 hours to make the room warm 2. The bathing heater can sustain hot water for only 2 people at most. Then, we have to wait for another hour before the water turns warm 3. There is no heater in restaurant, common areas making it impossible to have food comfortably The view of Kanchenjunga is very good from the hotel. The common areas are maintained very well. They also serve complimentary tea And pakoras in the evening which is a very good gesture
