The room and grounds were lovely, tidy, historic and comfortable. Great location. Staff at breakfast was very nice. BUT- this is a huge BUT- communication for checking in was abysmal. I’ve never had such a hard time figuring out HOW I was going to check in or determining how to even find that out. I emailed the property via two separate emails (directly and through their web portal)- there was no sign of their phone number anywhere, and even if I had found it, other guests confirmed it was very difficult to reach anyone that way either. You have to have a code to enter the house, it’s self check in- that’s fine. I saw the property responded to a similar review by saying they value an “independent stay” experience. That’s fine too- IF YOU COMMUNICATE. Otherwise it is neglect. I received emails telling me to get the code from the property and it proved arduous and nearly impossible in the day and a half (!) leading up to check in to figure out how to get the code let alone what it was. Agoda was useless here (they managed to get me the wrong code after six emails), but the property never responded AT ALL. Eventually Agoda did get me the code, and I was able to check in, but there were two other groups checking in at the same time even more confused than I was. This is NOT quality service. It is not enabling an independent experience. It is callous and lazy neglect and it caused significant stress for myself and the others I spoke to onsite, during what is meant to be a vacation. It was the worst check in experience I’ve ever experienced and while the property is lovely and a great value, I am wary to recommended it or return for this reason. I hope they handle their check in more professionally in future so others don’t have this experience.

No one to greet us and give keys, show us room, code, etc. Was supposed to sleep 4, but only had accommodations for 3. Had to make many many phone calls to have someone come and set up a cot. Was not told in advance that we needed to order a hot breakfast 48 hours beforehand. Very mis-managed.

The hotel itself has the great history in civil war. Easy parking. Backyard is cute and room is clean. Breakfast is grab and go. Brickhouse inn locates in the heart of historic district with a lot of restaurants and tourism services.

Stayed for one night. No check in desk per say but there is staff there to get you where you need to be. Great location. Beautiful building. Very affordable.

I booked the Illinois room, when I went to breakfast in the morning I was told I booked the Virginia room and Illinois room is quit an more expensive upgrade. They handed me a print out. I showed them my reservation that stated Illinois room with breakfast! Then asked me who I booked through, I said Agoda, was told that's why you always book direct! They acted like I had did something underhanded! All I did was go online and book a B&B. This was not my fault, and they questioned and embarrassed me right in front of the other guests like I had done something so wrong! And this was all on my 70th birthday which I had chose to celebrate there. Well never again!
