LOCATION: The hotel is located on Colman Street, which is near a ShopRite grocery store, and an NSA Supermarket. Staples, which can accept Amazon returns, is in the same plaza as the NSA Supermarket, where there is also a Burlington retail store. In New London, there is an Amtrak-and-CT rail station, along the Thames river, near water ferries to Long Island New York. The trains can take you west toward New Haven CT or east toward Providence RI. There is also a local bus service, called "Southeast Area Transit" (SEAT) which can bring you to Norwich CT and Groton CT, and one of its routes stops at the ShopRite. The USS Nautilus museum is also nearby, if one is interested in submarines. From New London CT, one has to cross to the other (east) side of the river Thames, to get to the museum in Groton CT. The hotel has 2-floors, and does have a ramp for getting to the front desk, but there are no elevators, as of 2024 October. It would be helpful if the exterior doors had electromechanical actuators, to open the doors for those using "assistive transport devices" or bicycles. The room doors of the hotel open to interior hallways of the building. The hotel only provides soap, shampoo, toilet paper, towels, and linens (no toothpaste or toothbrushes). OVERALL: This America's Best Value Inn in New London CT, was clean, and the hotel staff are helpful and polite, BUT preparatory cleaning, prior to check-in seems somewhat poorly done, as of 2024 October. I have stayed in a different room in this hotel, and found similar lack of preparatory cleaning and maintenance. (See the sections "PECULIAR OCCURRENCE" and "ROOM ISSUES" [both below] for details.) It seems the garbage dumpster tends to pile-up with garbage, and I am unsure if this might have something to do with the two rodents I saw scurry across the room floor I was in. (The staff said the rodents coming in, might have something to do with the moisture outside, when it rains.) The bathroom ventilator fan, was extremely helpful for circulating the air, when left on with the stove-top ventilation hood AND the air-conditioner-&-heater fan. In the mornings, I would open the windows, to refresh the air in the room. Some of the staff did not respond quickly to repair requests, and it often seemed like they were making-up excuses not to repair items. For thise individuals, it would be helpful for them to schedule repairs, and to use check-lists (suggested at the very end of this review, under "GENERAL PROCEDURAL SUGGESTIONS"). PECULIAR OCCURRENCE: Two rodents on two different days, ran across the floor, coming from somewhere behind the mini-refridgerator. I reported this to the staff, and they gave me a tool for trapping the mice. GOOD POINTS: P1) When I reported seeing two mice scurry across the floor, the staff provided me with an "sticky rodent trap", which the rodents can get trapped on, without being hurt. They then can be released outside P2) The front desk can provide some bandages, if you have a small injury or cut. P3) Mechanical bell at the front desk, makes it easy to get the attention of front desk staff, and 24-hour availability of the staff at the front desk is true. P4) Wood floors, and large floor tiles in bathroom, make it easy to clean. P5) Hot water is very good temperature, and the bathroom shower has convenient surfaces (seashell shaped). P6) Really good, water-efficient toilets with strong water pressure (flush volume selectable from 2 flush buttons). P7) Stove burners, conventional oven, and microwave oven were in the room. P8) There is a ventilator fan above the electric stove burners, which help circulate the air. P9) The "Magic Chef" brand ovens have 3 programmable memory settings, which can be helpful for long stays, if one does a lot of microwave cooking. P10) A good bathroom ventilator kept air flow to the bathroom fresh. P11) Windows open by sliding, to help ventilate air out (some hotels do not have windows that open, or the windows ar

P9) There is a ventilator fan above the electric stove burners, which help circulate the air P10) Windows open by sliding, to help ventilate air out (some hotels do not have windows that open, or the windows are opened by hand-cranks - which can break easily). P11) The television in the room I was in, was on a swivel stand, which made it easier to access its rear input ports, than at other hotels. (Some other hotels have televisions mounted to the wall, which makes accessing any rear input, involve taking the television - temporarily - off the wall mount.) P12) The television has inputs for "HDMI", "Component YPbPr", and "AV", which are useful: I connected my Samsung DeX-capable phone to the television, via the "Component YPbPr" input, using some additional adaptors, so I could use the television with my phone, as a computer. (It helps to have bluetooth-capable keyboards to do this.) EXTERIOR & GROUNDS: a) The hotel does have one exterior ramp, from the asphalt up to the entrance by the front desk, which provides accessibility for a wheeled "assistive transport devices", but - as of 2024 August - not near the east end of the building, nearest Colman Street. - The hotel should consider adding a ramp to the guest-accessible entrance closest to Colman Street, where there are only steps now. A ramp there would make it easier for "assistive transport devices" to acces the building (with keycard). b) The hotel does NOT have an elevator (as of 2024 August), so be sure to request a ground-floor room, if you have equipment, such as "assistive transport devices" or bicycles. HOTEL VENDING AREA: A) There is 1 vending machine, next to some laundry machines, and the ice dispensor. I didn't try this vending machine in September 2024, but am unsure whether it is a "weight-sensing" kind that refunds money automatically, if an item gets caught on a hook. The ABVI hotel might want to

(Some other hotels have televisions mounted to the wall, which makes accessing any rear input, involve taking the television - temporarily - off the wall mount.) GENERAL PROCEDURAL SUGGESTIONS: 2-i) The hotel might want to setup an "MMS, text-capable" phone number, so guests-or-staff can text-message maintenance issues to the hotel staff, with accompanying photos. ("MMS" = "Multimedia Messaging Service", which means that files-and-photos can be attached to text-messages.) One possible way of obtaining a free, "MMS, text-capable" phone number, is to establish one with "Google Voice", which is available to those who obtain a free "Google" account and gmail address. 2-ii) Winch to upper floors, or step-capable dolly 2-iii) Obtaining as replacement for microwaves, a "convection-and-microwave oven", which can bake AND microwave. (An example unit is the "GALANZ, Model: GSWWD09S1A09A, Convection and Microwave Oven") 2-iv) If some "accessibility buttons for opening exterior doors" were installed, it would make it easier for those using "assistive transport devices" (electric scooters, bicycles, and handcarts, for example) to enter and exit the building. These "accessibility buttons" could be linked to keycards. 2-v) Perhaps a "door-hanging sign", to indicate whether room service is desired, or an "indicator light" of some kind, will be helpful, so housekeeping does not need to inquire by knocking on the door. 2-vi) Replacement of old air-conditioning units, with new ones that have capabilities of "Timer On-&-Off", "Dry" (not just "Cool" or "Fan"), "Fahrenheit-or-Celsius" display, and really good condensation-drainage (so lottle pools of water do not appear inside hotel rooms near air-conditioners), will allow
