I stayed at the Howard Johnson by Wyndham in Lakeland FL for the 3 past nights. The fixtures and bathing facilities are updated and adequate. The queen bed that I slept in was comfortable. I did see 2 small roaches which I smashed. The room was clean but the floor did turn the bottom of my white sox brown. I suspect the staff goes to many rooms mopping before making a cleaning solvent change. While the floors may be disinfected the dirty soil likely gets smeared around room to room. Or perhaps the color the floors are coated with comes off. It is a reasonable stay for the under *** category.

I had previously stayed at a Extended Stay Windham for 1 night down the Road about 1 mile from HoJo's. I had 1 night there in 50+°F + windy outside weather. The heater did not work on the A/C unit so I awakened at 1:30am absolutely shaking and felt cold to the bone. I asked for two blankets at 1:35 am at the front desk and a maintenance man had to be awakened and come verify may heat in the room did not work by taking off the front cover and checking wires for 15 minutes while I waited and watched. Afterward he the maintenance man got me two blankets and apologized for no heat. It took quite a while to warm up and go to sleep. The last time I saw the clock was 2:35 am so I must have fallen asleep soon afterward. The next morning I had a sinus infection and cough that lasted 5-6 days. I left the Extended Stay and went to Howard Johnson where due to a severe cold I stayed 4 wonderful nights and days recovering. I was mostly bed bound and my plans to see historic buildings and visit local attractions was hampered by the severe cold I caught at the cold Extended Stay Windham. At Howard Johnsons Hotel the atmosphere was very pleasant. I went to the front desk to break a $10 bill quarters for washing clothes on site as well as several times to break both $20's and $10's to single dollars to purchase sodas and snacks from the onsite vending machines and the various front desk ladies and men were extremely kind, courteous, exceptionally polite and helpful in all transactions. The room although the wood floor seemed older showed and excellent standard of cleanliness. The sheet were absolutely white and "like new". The bed was comfortable for the most part but the mattress did have a slightly depressed section between my shoulder blades and hamstrings of my legs causing me to adjust my sleeping to be on my back right over the "wallowed out" place for sleeping comfort. The sink, sink counter, the tub-shower and toilet were spotlessly cleaned and looked to be newish and modern. The water pressure was string, amazing and easily temperature controlled by the shower handle. The warm showers felt absolutely great and was very helpful in assisting me to cough up mucus from my lungs as I was recovering from the severe sinus infection and cold. During the Sunday of 2/8/26 I went and laid in the sun by the pool shirtless where the heat really helped my sinuses to clear and I basically began getting well and was well from the cold two days later on Tuesday night. After my trying experience with the cold; I felt that the stay at Howard Johnson was a superb "God Send" for my satisfaction, comfort and healing. I only wish I would have found and chosen. l believe that the from the Extended Stay America by Windham most likely caused my illness due to severe stresses on me due to having to wait for the maintenance man to verify my need for blankets. I cannot say enough about the Ho Jo's Hotel, the personnel, the washer/dryer room, the poolside area and the cleanliness. I enrolled in the Howard Johnson's rewards program as it seems it will only take 7-8: stays to earn a free night or a big discount. Try to get your price online as I payed about $*** per night with charges included as the online deal price was $*** per night which included 2-4 adults a two queen beds. I was traveling alone and paid the online deal price because to check in a one person onsite when I called and asked for a senior or a military discount began at $*** dollars before the tax and other charges. I loved my four nights even though I was sick. I spent most of my time at the hotel. One more advantage the restaurants begin across from Holiday Inn and there is restaurant after restaurant nearly side by side as you drive north on Hwy 98 extending about 2-3 miles. I mean there must be at least 25 to choose from. The different breakfasts and dinners was quite the variety of selections and I never ate at the same restaurant twice.
