The bathtub was clogged, and when I looked at the drain, there was a massive clump of hair that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days. There was so much hair that it literally looked like a sponge. Since I was already in the middle of a shower, I had no choice but to clean it out myself. It was an absolutely disgusting experience. The room was so damp that there was a musty odor throughout my entire stay. Even the breakfast area, while nicely decorated with pretty furniture and lighting, was poorly maintained with crumbs left all over the carpet the whole time. On top of that, the staff service was far from friendly. During checkout, the agent handed me the receipt with one hand while focused on other tasks. The only hospitable employees were the tour desk representative and the valet staff. With this level of service and cleanliness, this hotel does not deserve to carry the Marriott brand name.

We stayed there for 2 nights, chose it because of the location knowing it's an old establishment. About an hour after checking into the room, we got 2 complaints about my kids running heavily in the room. I know my kids were not jumping or over-excited, it's because the hotel floor/walls too thin. Then at happy hour, the lady working behind the bar had a quite unpleasant attitude towards most of the guests, as well as her male colleague. My husband and I were hesitant to ask for drinks for my kids, which made our experience a bad one. The front desk team was helpful, but the hotel was so old all the furniture made squeaky sound. I would not recommend it to anyone I know who's going to Charleston.

The building is not well-maintained, nor is it particularly clean. The cooks and helpers at breakfast were pleasant and good at their jobs… the rest of the staff was unpleasant Lin the worst case scenario, aloof in a good day. I won’t go back there ever!

Great location in a historic building. Facilities were clean just outdated. Could use a refresh and update. Otherwise no complaints. Walking distance to everything. Plenty of street parking around hotel.

this is a great hotel, historic building, great free made to order breakfast, great evening reception drinks and snacks free, free snacks in the room, very comfortable room, very very friendly staff. Great location you can walk to anywhere in downtown Charleston
