Penedo Da Saudade Suites & Hostel is a great place to stay while in Coimbra. Staff is super friendly and helpful, and the renovated building is very bright and clean. Our room and bed were very comfortable. We enjoyed taking our very good breakfast on the roof terrace offering a beautiful view. Coimbra University with the city’s most important sites is a 15-minute walk away. Keep in mind that there are hills to climb when visiting Coimbra. We are travelling by train in Portugal. Taking a UBER from the train station to get to this establishment might be a good idea if you’re travelling like us — though we enjoyed doing everything on foot.

Comfortable in Coimbra

Great reviews didn’t tell the whole story.
We stayed in the Suite just below the rooftop terrace which is open for breakfast and all night long for anyone that wants. This is a problem when the 10pm quiet time starts as it’s never quiet in this old thinned walled & floored house. There is a small school for children across the street that causes lots of traffic for this quiet street. Also, the jack hammer from construction a couple of houses down makes for good daytime noise. Breakfast was par for Portugal. We were informed at checkin for our week long stay that 36 kids around 16-17 would be staying the weekend. It turns out unchaperoned! No one stays at this property during the night so they had a good time all night long! This place wants to be too many things. Hostel and Hotel. Well it didn’t work during our stay. Would recommend not staying in the deluxe suite noise all day and night long from other guests. Staff were friendly but does not get you a good night sleep!
