Hotel Schmuckhof

Nice hotel for a night or two. New rooms. Very cold reception, restaurant, departure . Barely any interaction with staff. After drink order, took 1/2 hour for someone to take my order in their restaurant which wasn’t full. No acknowledgement.

We stayed two nights here in the western Dolomites, and I want to be straightforward with anyone considering this property. I would not recommend it. I will start with what was good, because it was real. We were given a room on the top floor, and the window and the view from it were lovely. When we asked, staff went out of their way to find us a sleep mask, and we appreciated that. The people here are not unkind. But that is the whole issue. Nothing happens unless you ask for it. The person working the reception desk is the same person working the restaurant downstairs. One team, two jobs. So the front desk is simply whoever happens to be free. It was a different face every day, with no handover between them, nobody who knew our booking, and nobody who took responsibility for the room. The restaurant is the actual business being run here. The accommodation is a sideline, and you feel it immediately. Housekeeping made that obvious. Fresh towels were not part of the daily service. Staff entered the room, changed nothing, and left as though it had been cleaned. When I brought the used towels down to reception myself, I was told, fairly curtly, to just leave them in the room. Towels did arrive eventually, but only after we pushed for them. On a two night stay, a guest should not have to chase basic linen. The floors were visibly dirty for the entire stay. There was fine debris floating in the air, dandelion fluff and dust, plainly visible in the light. A room in that condition is one I would expect to have insect problems as well. With the summer heat on top of everything, it was simply not a comfortable place to be. To be clear about my conclusion: the view does not make up for this. A room you pay for should be clean, should have its linen replaced without a request, and should have a front desk that knows who you are. None of that was true here. If you are coming for the food downstairs, it may well be worth your time. If you are booking a room, I would look elsewhere in the valley, and I would not recommend this property to other travellers. I would also ask Agoda to review whether this property is meeting the housekeeping and reception standards listed on its page.
