The location is ideal just outside the main town of La Fortuna . The grounds are lovely, the pool area has been upgraded recently, likewise the thermal pools. Not all thermal pools were in use & the ones which were, were either very hot (circa 40 deg) or cold (circa 28 deg). There was no in-between. The pool at the swim up bar was in-between & large enough to swim in. The kids enjoyed the fresh water pool also in the bar area as this was bigger & normal temperature. The rooms have undergone some renovation, but in need of more work. Our air con stopped working & likewise the electronic door entry card & we were locked out of our room for a good hour until maintenance arrived. Not ideal especially when's there's only 2 chairs on the veranda for 4 people. The rooms were generally clean (more tired than anything, making them look dirty) & there was a pair of shorts left in the room when we arrived. The food was average, the fresh fruit juices were more cordial than fresh fruit & the fresh fruit was hit and miss for freshness. The omolettes were great. Our stay was lovely but we had stayed at several other places which surpassed this one.

I stayed here for two nights in June and had a very nice experience, overall. I would recommend it to others, but there are a few problems that should definitely be addressed by the owners. Pros: The grounds are immaculate and stunningly beautiful. The cabins have an amazing view of the Arenal volcano. The hot spring pools are all of a nice size, with temperatures ranging from near scalding to about ambient temperature as you go down the hill. The staff are all lovely and very accommodating. I loved that there is a swim-up bar that is covered by a roof, so you can get away from the sun/rain for a bit, if necessary. Great cocktails. The free breakfast was delicious. Cons: With the exception of the free breakfast mentioned above, the food available in the two dining areas is really subpar. The quality of the ingredients left a lot to be desired, as well as the taste. They really need to hire a new chef and update their menu! For example, I ordered a pesto pasta, and it came out absolutely drenched in olive oil. There was a pool of oil left behind afterward. I also tried the Peruvian ceviche, and the dish I received had so little flavor (aside from way too much lime), that I couldn't even justify eating it. I ended up leaving the resort a few times to go eat good food in town (~15 min Uber ride away), which is really disappointing, inconvenient and expensive. The cold pool deck area had some lounge chairs for tanning, but many of the chairs were so old and worn out one couldn't sit on them. Also, there were no umbrellas to use for shade. These details seem like an obvious thing to me, so why were they missed? No towel racks in the bathroom of the cabin. Why?! The lights were broken/off in all of the little illuminated cabin number signs outside, so at night, in the dark, it was difficult to know which of the many identical cabins was mine. I walked up to the wrong one more than once!

The hotel is per se is great and the staff is beyond kind and professional. My only issue was with the hot springs. The difference between the hottest pool and the next one was big. There was one pool that was not working and one that was very dirty.
