Criterion Club Hotel

You get what you pay for with this place. Great location right by the water and walking/biking trails. Basically some old rooms above an old pub. Very old rooms with a very heavy, creaky door to get in to access all the rooms. Light bulb was out in the bathroom but was quickly fixed after asking. They did have a nice mini kitchen which was nice to have our breakfast and cook our frozen dinners in microwave. Bathroom in room was very small.

After reading the good and not so good reviews on this place, and im not one to leave bad reviews, but this place is not worth the money. My husband compared the tiny room with 2 single beds squashed into it, like a milliatary barracks. I had to move one bed to access the extra blankets in the cupboard. The bedding was terrible, on my bed was a childs blanket straight out of the early 90's. Pop over the road to The Warehouse and purchase new ones. The bathrooms were old and dirty, and the noise from the people living there, and late at night was so inconsiderate of guests staying. Just glad I had earplugs. The free parking, which they advertised is not secure parking, like one would expect, but find a park on the road outside. Its such a shame, as it is a beautiful old historic building, being let down by the people who are running it. The TV in the so called executive lounge, didn't have any channels to watch. For $85, I probably would have been more comfortable pitching my tent in the back yard. On some sites, I have seen this hotel with 4 stars, who ever gave them that is a dreamer, or the staff have fudged the reviews. Clean it up, take some pride in the place, and bring it back to its glory. I know what budget rooms are, as we have stayed in many, but this was below budget. One good thing about it, was the sheets were clean.

Bed needs to be replaced . Horrible lumpy uncomfortable. Little to no sleep all night . Toilet trickled water all night so the cistern kept filling up and making loud noises tried to stop the water trickling to no avail . Rooms look absolutely nothing like the photos

Honestly am lost for words…. Just don’t stay there .

The hotel is tired and could do with updating. Basic accommodation but value for money.
