We have booked the Twin City View room which included a table and chairs and a nice view of Brussels. We arrived before the official checking time, and they found us a room, but the check-in was already not very pleasant, the gentleman that checked us in was friendly and polite but maybe new as he was struggling, his colleague did not even greet us when she was looking at what he did, and then went to deal with another person and told him to do this and that and she will do it if it did not work. Whatever he did was not working and she just told him: " I will do it after", without telling us to bear with her while she was finishing with another customer. When she came to help him, she kept repeating that he made a mistake... mistakes are human, no need to insist on that and putting your colleague down. Then the room... well, it was tinier than on the website, there was no table, just to small chairs on the side, no design rug... the bedroom was not set up as on the pictures.. the view was on the metro station and some cranes away. The most upsetting part was that the air con was never working, we were dying, none of the panels was working, there was not an once of air. We had 27C in the room at some point. The tablet to "control" the room has one pdf telling to use the panels - which did not work either. The windows were also not very cleaned which gave even more of a gloomy atmosphere of the room. The room was nice but not to my expectations especially when you pay £230 a night! The bar staff in the morning was really nice and friendly, which was not the case of the staff in the evening. The breakfast was also pretty unpleasant. First of the fresh salmon leaking near the ham platters was worrying for cross contamination, I suffer from allergy to fish and had to restrain eating anything near that platter of salmon. There was a pot with chicken sausages on the card but inside some pieces of shredded chicken. Also not really disable friendly as the lids are really heavy to lift. The atmosphere in the breakfast room was really gloomy and nobody saying hi/morning or smiling to the exception of the staff working in the bar area and in the omelette bar. Kudos to the free bottle in the room, the omelette bar, the pancakes. Warning, they never tell you at first but they take an holding deposit of €50 to cover any damage in the room... we had to enquire what it was when they asked to charge this on my card. On the top of the unfriendly start, it was quite unpleasant. The location is perfect, the hotel itself is lovely but there are a lot of work to do with the staff and keeping customers satisfied when they raised that the room they have does not look like what they paid for. We paid more to have that specific room and felt downgraded, maybe because we did not look as posh as the other customers (?!), just an assumption as somehow some staff were more polite or friendly with "poshier" people! I have stayed in a few Marrriot hotels before and this stay was a quite disappointing experience.
