George & Dragon Country Pub & Hotel Wolverton Townsend

This is a country pub, so I wasn't expecting The Ritz. However, I did expect basic functionality. The wifi signal in The Garden Room was so weak as to be useless, with each new page taking a minute or so to load for the most part. As the 4G signal is weak too, a good wifi signal was important to me. I resolved to watch TV in the evening after supper as despite it being a Friday night the pub was relativel quiet and lacking atmosphere, but the room's television didn't work. It had power, but just a blue screen regardless of what I did with the TV or Remote buttons. This had been reported previously ("BBC1 didn't work") in the room's Guest Comments book, but clearly ignored. The bedside lamp was of the touch to turn on/off type, but the stand was sticky, making me question the claeanliness of the room. The Garden Room has full width glazed double doors facing the kitchen and breakfast rooms, so I had to keep the 'blackout curtains closed for privacy. The smaller side windows, which are filthy, look out onto a couple of the garden tables so again necessitating curtain closure for privacy. I felt entombed! The staff were friendly and efficient. Check-out time is early - at 10am - and as I had a wedding to attend just a few minutes drive away at 12:30pm I asked if I could have a late check-out to avoid creasing my clothes. I was offered 11:00am, but was disappointed it couldn't be extended until noon. Despite that, a female cleaning person opened my door around 10:30. I was naked, having just stepped out of the shower, but the curtains were closed and I called out just in time to avoid nn embarassing situation. Overall, I was disappointed with my one-night stay.
