Overall good value for money. Location is easy to get to from the centre of Edinburgh - there are multiple bus and tram options and it usually takes 20-30 mins depending on waiting times for buses. We checked in late (10.45 pm) and it was easy to arrange, but be aware they require £10 cash on arrival for late check-in (they called me the day before to remind me, but I hadn't known in advance I so assume it was somewhere in the small print). The owner was lovely on all the occasions we spoke with him. Really cute wee place, an old building but well looked-after. The rooms were very basic but had all we needed - space to hang a few clothing items, a desk, and a kettle for tea and coffee - we were really only there to sleep at night so the basic furnishings were fine for us. Well-heated - we visited in mid-December and the room was warm enough that we even turned the radiator right down and still didn't get too cold. The shower was modern and spacious with good pressure. Room and bathroom were both spotlessly clean. The only negative for us was the bed, which had a thin mattress on a firm wood base, only one flat pillow each, and was quite small/cramped in the corner; my partner and I both slept poorly because of this. If I was coming back to Edinburgh alone, I would probably stay here again. If I came back with my partner, we would probably invest in somewhere with more comfortable beds for a better night's sleep. Overall, I still think Adelphi was good value for money and would recommend to anyone who isn't too fussed about bed comfort.
