The Grand Hotel

The Grand is in the perfect location to walk Lerwick. I walked from the ferry depot to the hotel. It was a good walk, but easy to find. It is on Commercial St, so it was easy to do a little shopping, enjoy some coffee or great Shetland food. The hotel isn't modern, but that is the charm. I really felt like I was in a more remote area of the world. There was excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water for showers. Mickey in the breakfast room was so kind and took great care of all the guests. The beds were very clean as so comfortable that I was able to sleep in and get over my jet lag and lack of sleep from a rough ferry crossing. I would stay at The Grand again and recommend it to anyone visiting Lerwick.

Hotel is run down and in need of an upgrade. The staff tried their best to overcome the clear deficiencies and Harvey the owner was there from morning through the bar closure. The staff all look exhausted. The breakfast made by Mickey made up for the hotel’s deficiencies! Great location in the center of Lerwick overlooking the harbor but note that there are a lot of stairs and no elevator and you need to park in the public parking behind the hotel.
