The Prince Consort is a 3 star rated accommodation but it really could be much higher with just a few swaps/fixes but more on that below! My wife, daughter and I stayed in a triple room for one night and also had a meal in the lively/cheerful pub. Before I list all the niggles I should add that I'd happily stay again and only write these things in the hope they will take it on board and make it all the better! The room was adequate for a night's stay and despite the pub being crowed and loud on a Friday night the rooms are set apart from the building and the location down a dead end road meant it was a totally silent night! That said it wasn't a great sleep for my daughter and I as we both found our mattresses too bouncy and in my case the pillows a bit too soft. I really should just bring my own to be honest! My wife slept fine in the double with me so horses for courses I guess! The massive skylight window opens with a pole and allowed us to cool down as it was very well insulated and the 3 of us warmed the room quite effectively! It needed a good slam shut as you can't reach the mechanism it's that high up! There were complimentary biscuits each and the usual tea/coffee/hot chocolate sachets + UHT mini milk cartons (a couple were out of date though!) and sugar. Kettle needed a quick clean to remove loose limescale and filling it in the tiny basin in the bathroom was a little tricky. The bathroom was fine - the shower has fabulous pressure and loads of hot water - but please change the knackered old shower head as a simple low cost replacement would have made it so much more luxurious! The taps on the sink were both loose and one was leaking slowly onto the floor with each use (probably due to being loose) Another quick fix! the toilet seat/lid needs replacing as it's all stained with multiple bleach cleaning (I hope). The metal springs in the bathroom door mechanism make it the noisiest in the world which made middle of the night toilet trips one that wakes everyone in the room unfortunately! Again a low cost swap would fix that! The bathroom light pull is missing so it's a cord that's all dirty from everyone using it - no pleasant - replace it and add on a pull that can be cleaned. In the bedroom the wall light switches need cleaning/painting underneath - something you only notice when lying on the bed and they're above your head! There are plenty of sockets which is great and you get a hair dryer, hangers, towels, shampoo and shower gel too - all good! There were quite a few of those daddy long leg spiders including on the bedside cabinet and in the wardrobe space - a quick hover around the crevices would save me being summoned as the chief spider catcher multiple times as we settled in! The meal in the pus was AWESOME! The staff were super friendly and so accommodating when we asked if we could sit in a quieter spot (our daughter has hypersensitivity to loud noises). We all had burgers and they were bursting with flavour, juicy, and cooked to perfection! The accompanying skin on fries were delicious too! Definitely one of the best burgers I can remember having - and I've had quite a few over my near fifty years on this planet! Such a shame we were so full we couldn't try out any of the dessert offerings - next time! So overall totally happy with our stay in terms of value for money. The on-site food was great and with it being so quiet it just needs hose little things fixing and it would have been perfect! Thanks for having us and we look forward to coming back once our daughter is at Uni in Souhampton!

We had two rooms, a double on the upper floor and a twin on the ground. The double was very good, spacious and nice bathroom. The twin was dark, with a very small window and quite musty when you opened the door. There's maybe damp issues on the ground floor. We also ate in the pub and the food was excellent. Overall value for what we paid.

The rooms were well equipped and nicely furnished.Plenty of coffee,tea and bottled water.Nice shower and shampoo body wash.Best breakfast we've ever had in a pub!

Well equipped, clean room even though it was not very big but excellent value for money. Good food at a reasonable price and friendly staff. Would happily stay here again.
