This hotel is in need of a good deep clean or even renovations.

I chose the Delta Hotels by Marriott Swindon expecting a higher standard, especially considering it was far from the cheapest hotel in the area. Unfortunately, my experience left me feeling that the hotel is far more focused on generating extra revenue than providing good customer service. I arrived around 15 minutes before the advertised check-in time and was told I would have to pay an additional fee to access my room early. While I understand hotels have policies, charging a guest for such a short period felt unnecessarily petty and immediately created a poor first impression. To make matters worse, there is also a £15 parking charge. I pointed out that the Marriott website stated guests could receive a 50% discount by paying at reception on arrival, but the receptionist simply told me this was not true. Whether the website was incorrect or the staff were misinformed, it left me wondering why the information provided by Marriott could not be honoured. The reception staff were polite enough but not particularly welcoming. The overall atmosphere felt transactional rather than hospitable, and from the moment I arrived I felt like I was being viewed as a source of additional income rather than a valued guest. The room itself was the best part of the stay. It was clean, smelled fresh, and I had no complaints about its cleanliness or comfort. Sadly, the leisure facilities were a major disappointment. The changing rooms smelled strongly of sweaty feet or old socks. The swimming pool looked tired, with missing grout around the poolside, and the pool water itself appeared murky rather than crystal clear. The sauna had an unpleasant odour, almost as if something had been left to decay inside, and the steam room wasn't much better. Breakfast was average at best. Having read previous glowing reviews, I expected much more. The scrambled eggs were particularly disappointing—wet, soggy and unappetising. The hotel itself is beginning to show its age. The décor feels dated, the carpets appear worn and in need of replacement, and much of the artwork looks inexpensive and uninspiring. A programme of refurbishment and redecoration would make a significant difference. Overall, I left with the impression that this hotel prioritises additional charges over guest experience. Between the expensive parking, the attempt to charge for arriving a few minutes early, and the underwhelming facilities, I simply cannot recommend staying here. There are better hotels available that make guests feel welcome rather than looking for opportunities to add extra fees. I will not be returning.

I went into my stay with high expectations, but it turned out to be the most disappointing place I've ever stayed. For a globe-trotting businessman like me, hotels are my home away from home, so I always book the best hotel in the area (preferably one with a higher price tag since I've never been there before). But a hotel where I can't even borrow a pair of scissors for a minute? says they have scissors but can't lend me one. They say this is because they may not get them back. Understood. So promise to bring back in 10 minutes, but Declined, Am I in a Marriott now? But I need to unpack in a hurry, so I politely ask again if I can leave my cell phone or ID for WARRANT, but they refuse. For the record, there are no commercial stores near the hotel, so I have no alternative. Wow! I've never encountered anything like this in all my travels around the world. Treating guests like potential criminals? There's no business centre, so I asked for printing and they helped me with that. That's why I added one star. On a side note, instead of scissors, Cast Iron Bar & Grill on the ground floor was very kind to lend me a knife. Even though I was not the customer. Many thanks to Cast Iron Bar & Grill.
