Hotel Botanico de Coimbra

Great staff and clean rooms. Close to university and other sites of interest around Coimbra. I'd stay here again.

Great hotel and value for money. Fresh, clean rooms. Great vibe.

I still gave it a 5 stars despite the internet service because of other factors. Just be aware that the internet is slow especially after around 9 p.m. So, if internet speed is really important to you, it is something to be aware of. Their breakfast is really simple. Bread, yogurt, cheese, cold cuts, cereals, orange juice and fruits (apple and orange) and coffee. Do not expect cappuccino or espresso. Bananas and other protein like scramble eggs would be nice. But I think breakfast is sufficient . The breakfast room is really small around 6 tables, so you only have 30 minutes on busy days. But we never had issues. Otherwise, here is why I still gave it a five stars despite the internet and breakfast. The hotel is really quiet. You can barely here the guests coming and going unlike other hotels. The service staff does a very good job of keeping the facility clean and the rooms. We stayed for seven days and they change the linens every two days. The hotel is close to the Botanical Garden and other points of interest. Everything is walkable but be aware Coimbra is very hilly and I mean steep hills!!! There are no restaurants nearby. The staff sent us to a restaurant called Papa on our first day. It is near the arch but I would NOT recommend it!!! It was supposed to be open until 7 p.m. We went at around 2 p.m. on and it was closed. It was on a Tuesday. I would go to the one called Bodega Brasileira (about 5-10minutes walk). Cheap and very friendly staff. The front desk staff at the hotel are very friendly and speaks English. Maria (breakfast room staff) constantly checks the breakfast items. The owner (I thinks she is the owner) helps to make sure guests are taken cared of. There is a little market just behind the hotel where you can buy snacks, water, fruits, etc. You may need to walk or UBER to some restaurants. The MOST it cost us for UBER is 4 euros!!! I highly recommend this hotel.

I'm on holiday which I don't wanna schedule myself what time I must wake up for breakfast. If your hotel is small & unable to accommodate all hotel guests for breakfast then don't put breakfast included or make sure you have enough space for breakfast, make use of hotel lounge area or something smarter idea than asking guests what time I will have my breakfast as compulsory. Also only allowed 30min for breakfast 👎👎👎👎👎I just check in & I feel terrible with this stupid rule right away.
