Praia do Canal Nature Retreat - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

It’s our third time here and we still love it, but a few things are getting a little tired may need to keep up with the repairs. Also with this booking we did not receive wine on arrival or water and biscuits when we left (which I thought was a nice touch for the other 2 times we have been)

Praia do Canal is exquisite, especially for the price we found. But a few small improvements would make it absolutely perfect. We found the service to be inconsistent. Staff gave us many unexpected gifts (e.g., fruit baskets, wine), but housekeeping often forgot to replace used items and woke us up early on a holiday morning to try to clean. Restaurant staff were friendly but forgot elements of our order on more than one occasion. The breakfasts were good but monotonous if staying more than a few days. We would recommend more variety from day to day. Coffee quality was generally low, masked by lots of dry foam. The access road to the hotel was littered with potholes, which worsened over the course of our stay due to the rain. The hotel should invest in road repair or lobby the local authorities for better maintenance. The bathroom design in the rooms does not afford much privacy. The rooms need coat hooks or a coat stand and a place for storing muddy shoes. Overall, these issues created only minor inconveniences. We loved the spa, location, decor, and ambiance. The bar menu and service were exceptional. We hope to return.
