We recently stayed at Strawberry Hill and overall had a lovely experience. The setting is absolutely stunning, with incredible views over the mountains and beautiful tropical vegetation throughout the property. The resort feels very peaceful, clean and secure. Wi-Fi was reliable and available across most of the property, which was appreciated as mobile reception was quite limited. Our room was spacious, private and beautifully designed. The outdoor shower was a real highlight, as was the unexpected outdoor daybed where we spent quite a bit of time relaxing. The views from the room were spectacular. The only downside was that the room became quite hot, with no ceiling fan and only a pedestal fan that was either ineffective or too noisy to sleep with. The room also felt like it needed a bit of TLC, with some rusty appliances, a toilet where the flusher was nearly broken, and stains on the bottom of the bath. The food was generally very good, although some dishes felt a little overpriced for the portion sizes. Breakfast is included, but it’s a simple continental breakfast (eggs, fruit and bread) rather than anything from the full menu. That suited us well, although coffee lovers should note they only offered black press coffee - no espresso coffees or lattes. Service was probably the most inconsistent part of our stay. Some staff were fantastic, while at other times it was difficult to find anyone. Our room wasn’t ready until after 4pm despite the advertised 3pm check-in, there was no pool service, and the bar experience could be improved. The staff weren’t familiar with a basic gin and tonic, and several wines listed on the menu weren’t available. Dinner also took a very long time to arrive - we genuinely wondered if our order had been forgotten - and our plates weren’t cleared once we had finished. Despite these issues, Strawberry Hill is a beautiful property with an incredible location and a unique atmosphere. With a few improvements to service and some small room upgrades, it would be an exceptional place to stay.

A Professional Review — Strawberry Hill, Jamaica (Island Outpost) Stay: 28–30 April 2026 — Two-Bedroom Villa — *** I write this review reluctantly, and only after exhausting every reasonable private channel available to me. As a Culinary Director with a long career inside this industry, I do not take to public platforms lightly. I understand operational pressures, I respect the craft, and I extend significant grace to properties navigating the realities of luxury hospitality. What follows is shared not in anger, but in the hope that it informs future guests and prompts genuine reflection within the Island Outpost group. The stay I arrived at Strawberry Hill on 28 April 2026 for a two-night reservation in a Two-Bedroom Villa, having paid *** in full. The villa I was assigned presented with conditions inconsistent with the property's positioning and pricing: visible cockroaches, an active presence of mosquitoes and flies, dirt accumulation, soiled drapery, worn and damaged furnishings, and an inadequate cooling solution. The combined effect made the room unfit for rest. By 00:43 on 29 April, I initiated contact requesting assistance and a possible relocation. Over the following hour, I made three documented requests for support through the property's stated channels. No staff member was reachable. No on-site response materialised. At 01:37, having exhausted my options, I surrendered the villa keys to security and departed the property. For a luxury operator with overnight occupancy, the absence of a reachable duty manager — or any guest-facing presence — during a legitimate room-condition complaint is, in itself, a serious operational failure. The response that followed In the days after, the resolution offered through the booking channel amounted to USD 50 — approximately 4.9 percent of the total paid. I declined respectfully and in writing, noting that the figure was not proportionate to the nature of the failure, the amount paid, or the category of accommodation booked. I then engaged the matter through the appropriate formal route. On 1 May 2026, I issued a written complaint addressed to Strawberry Hill management, Island Outpost reservations, and the booking platform, setting out the facts, the timeline, the evidence preserved, and a clear request for resolution. On 13 May 2026, having received no acknowledgement, I issued a Second Notice — courteous in tone, professional in structure, and explicit in its request for a basic procedural reply. To date, I have received no acknowledgement of receipt, no case reference, no assigned point of contact, no holding response, and no substantive reply from any of the three parties. That is the central issue of this review. What I actually asked for I want to be precise about this, because it matters. I did not ask for confrontation. I did not ask for the moon. I asked for help and for support. I made clear, both at the property and in writing, that I was willing to adapt and to compromise at every stage. A reassignment, a relocation, a fair and proportionate path forward, a genuine conversation — any one of these would have been welcomed. What I requested was the bare minimum that this industry is built on: recognition of the guest, procedural engagement, and a willingness to discuss and exchange on the experience. These are not concessions. They are standard practice. A simple acknowledgement, a case number, a named point of contact, and an indication of timeline would have changed the entire trajectory of this matter. None was offered. Why I am writing this publicly This is not my preferred mode of expression. Coming from inside the industry, I understand the cost of public reviews and I do not deploy them lightly. But repeated silence in the face of a documented, paid-for, premium-category complaint is not something I am prepared to absorb quietly. Silence in this context is not neutral; it is a position. And it sends a mes
