I actually made a last-minute reservation arrangement to book Holiday Inn Express West as there is very few good hotel units in Kunming. I had certainly made a right choice to choose Holiday Inn express as the staff service was brilliant and helpful as we arrived at late evening night to Kunming. The front desk helps us to look out for a hotpot restaurant that open until late hour and help to arrange and communicate with the taxi drive to ensure we reached the right location. The hotel room are cleaned everyday, it came with self-laundry service at the ground floor equipped with washing machine and dryer machine separately. Everyday, a welcome drink was placed at the lobby to ensure guest can quench their thirst once returned from outing tour. There is a metro station nearby the hotel which was not updated in the hotel map. The Metro station is only a 15 min walk and you can check-out the station 梁家和,Line 3. From Kunming Railway station to Holiday Inn, there is MRT linked between both stations. Our overall experience was brilliant, and I fully recommended this hotel when you choose Kunming city.

The location of this Holiday Inn Express is close enough to the areas tourists want to go (Green Lake Park, Old Kunming, University District, etc) that it's a short DiDi or taxi ride anywhere. There is a metro system in Kunming but I don't think it's convenient to go from the hotel without changing lines. I pretty much took DiDi and the occasional taxi everywhere I wanted to go in the city. No staff speak any English, which isn't uncommon for China, but I am always a little disappointed when an international brand can't get one English speaker per shift. They had an info sheet in the room that thankfully had English on one side and Chinese on the other. On the sheet were a few recommended restaurants near the hotel. I went to one and I liked it. Also because it's China, parts of the hotel smell like smoke, which is gross. But what can you do? My room didn't smell like smoke thankfully. No fridge in the room. I believe I read this in one of the reviews before I booked. They have a laundry room on the ground floor with one new-looking washer/dryer set and two older sets of washers and dryers. Like many hotels in China, the laundry is free to use and comes with detergent. I was usually either running late or just not hungry for breakfast, so I only had some breakfast on my last morning before catching the the train. It was quite an extensive spread. If you book through a 3rd party, you won't get any IHG credit, which is disappointing. Overall I was fine with the hotel and with the location.

Enjoyed the short stay with family, but didn't realise there was no room service available. It meet our basic needs and was clean and nice. Would recommend to solo travellers and not with kids and family .

not really suitable for families and young children has no in room dining. But it doesn have plenty of food around the hotel. Breakfast was pretty good :)
