Good room, very well serviced by the room maid, everything cleaned, changed and made up perfectly, a pleasant change from other local hotels we had resided at recently. Pine bed was a bit loose and rickety (in fact it's on the verge of collapse and could do with inspecting and replacing), but adds to the charm of the rustic room. Staff at breakfast were attentive, polite and obiging, only gripe about the 'proper breakfast' on the menu was the undercooked streaky bacon. A proper English breakfast should include proper Engish bacon, not American style streaky bacon that has not even been crisped up. We were not alone in this thinking as we noted other guests had left their bacon upon departure. oh, and the outside light at the rear accommodation door not working, so it was really hard to see after dark when entering the building. Other than that, all was great.

Ok hotel, good location
King superior room was ok but far too hot and couldn’t adjust radiator. (We had to put a throw over it to try to keep room cooler, even though it was cold weather!) Spoke to staff member shortly after arriving, who informed us there was a problem with the heating throughout the hotel (not mentioned at check in) and maybe it would be resolved the following day. Never was and there was no further communication on the matter. We arrived back the 1st day to find roofers working outside our windows but no one had bothered to inform us beforehand that they would be there or even apologise afterwards. Breakfast was very slow, waitress, although pleasant, didn’t seem to take orders by who arrived first, just took all orders randomly all at once, took 15 minutes approximately before taking our order then another 30 before any food arrived. Granola never did arrive on 1st day. So, all in all a little disappointing. Tip: check there’s space in the car park before driving in as it’s a little tight.

Blackout
We had a lovely stay at the Hornblower, the staff that looked after us ,Luke and Beth were very attentive and helpful the only improvement that I would suggest is a blackout blind in room 3 as the pub sign on the street which is right outside the window is very bright
