Of course, the only reason to stay at an airport hotel is because one has very late or very early travel and is looking to maximize their sleep. Frankly I would have been better off sleeping AT the airport given I don’t think I was able to get more than a hour total of sleep due to the unfortunate placement of being in room 144, directly above the reception desk. Due to the open floor plan, loud or unruly behavior at the desk is plainly audible. Here’s what transpired. 1. From approximately 11pm to 1:30am two staff members were having an extremely loud, boisterous conversation at the front desk. I actually thought it was hotel guests at the bar being so rowdy until I came downstairs to ask them to be quiet and realized it was actually hotel staff making all this noise. By the way, the entire lobby smelled of smoke as these staff members had clearly been smoking indoors. 2. At 2:30am there was a series of loud banging, again making it impossible to sleep. 3. The room was sweltering hot— I later learned from staff it was set to 75 degrees. I’m not sure why the hotel bothers having a thermostat and pretending guests can have control over the temperature, but apparently one cannot adjust the temperature without speaking to staff member… which I did at 1:30am after being extraordinarily uncomfortable for quite some hours. It took at least another hour for the room to cool to an appropriate temperature. 4. This morning, I attempted to leave the hotel at 7am, sleep deprived and running late for the first in a series of international flights (after having only been able yo fall asleep around 4:30am). The hotel shuttle was blocking my car. When I asked the desk to please move the shuttle so I could leave—again, rushed to make a very expensive flight—they refused and said I would have to wait until the shuttle leaves for the airport. This is completely outrageous to trap customers in the parking lot. I retorted the shuttle would just need to make up about 20-30 meetings so I can fit, I only got a blank stare. Needless to say, the shuttle did not move until it was ready, keeping me stuck.
