We had a 3-day, 2-night stay at GRT Grand Madurai. We chose GRT because of its well-known brand name and reputation as one of the better hotels in Madurai. As a family travelling with children, comfort and safety are our utmost priorities. We chose a Grand Club Room mainly because it was advertised as offering a temple view. A day before check-in, I received a WhatsApp message asking about our arrival time and bed preference. I replied that, as we were travelling as a family, we would require interconnecting rooms. Unfortunately, there was no further response regarding this request. After completing the check-in formalities, we opened the room doors and realised that the rooms were not interconnecting. I called reception to check, and thankfully, there were connecting rooms available and we were moved to them. However, for some reason, the original rooms seemed better and were also one level higher than the rooms we were moved to. One thing I would recommend to future guests is to check the room categories carefully before booking. According to the hotel's website, the Grand Club Rooms are advertised as having temple views. However, I later found out that Business Class Rooms can also have temple views. If you don't particularly need the Grand Club facilities, a Business Class Room may be sufficient and could offer better value. The Grand Club Lounge offers some finger food, desserts, music and television. In our experience, there wasn't a great deal beyond that to justify paying significantly more for the club room, although this may depend on individual preferences. Housekeeping and room standards This was one of the areas where I felt the hotel needs improvement. The toilet was not clean enough when we arrived. There was hair and flower petals in the shower area, along with stains. I provided feedback to housekeeping and they came to clean it, which I appreciated. However, for a hotel positioning itself as a 5-star property, I don't think the bathroom should require attention from the guest before it reaches an acceptable standard. I was also surprised to see Dove toiletries being provided. This was my first experience seeing this particular brand in a 5-star hotel, as I would generally associate a higher-end hotel with more premium toiletries. The bottles themselves also had labels that were peeling, and some appeared dusty and dirty. When I mentioned this, I was told that because the bottles were white, they would naturally appear that way. In my opinion, this is something the hotel should review rather than dismiss, particularly if it wants to maintain a consistent 5-star presentation. Swimming pool and spa My child used the swimming pool, which is a small rectangular-shaped pool. It seemed relatively quiet during our stay, which was nice. However, the poolside shower area was not particularly clean, and some of the frames were rusty. The poolside bar also appeared to be out of use and had accumulated dust and dirt. These details may seem minor, but they do affect the overall impression of the property. We also tried the massage service, which was a positive experience for me. The ambience was pleasant, and the facilities and amenities were good. Breakfast We had the breakfast buffet every morning. Unfortunately, the spread seemed largely the same each day. There were pork sausages every morning along with another pork dish. I would have appreciated more variety, such as chicken sausages, puttu, idiyappam, different South Indian breakfast options and, of course, more Madurai/Tamil Nadu specialities. My children particularly wanted appam. After speaking to the chef, they were told that appam would be prepared for them the following morning. However, it wasn't available the next morning. They asked another staff member and were again told that it would be prepared the following day, but unfortunately, it still wasn't available. This felt like a communication and follow-through issue. No Valet parking available at the time of check in , simple saying by hotel staff to park the vehicle in parking area , Being in hospitality forum this is not acceptable in reputed brand hotel ,, and in breakfast waitress is not asking to clear the plate politely, just like clearing ,, Apart from everything is excellent,,

This hotel is good. Clean in most respects. The breakfast buffet was really good.

The property offered good value for money with a convenient location. The cleanliness was satisfactory and the staff was friendly. While the facilities were decent there is room for improvement for morning breakfast and buffet options.

New and modern hotel, good food Unfortunately, we’ve been overcharged by one buffet dinner, although we ordered a la carte. I submitted a review at the hotel request and explained the situation. They didn’t even bother to apologize…. Not a 5 star behavior :(
