Discovery Samal

It was our first time checking in at Discovery Samal, and overall, it is a beautiful resort with exceptionally pleasant, friendly, and efficient staff. The Good: Seamless Travel: Having their own exclusive port in Davao was a huge plus, making the boat ride to the island short and convenient. The Resort & Rooms: The resort itself is stunning with great amenities and beautiful views. Our room was huge, incredibly comfortable, and offered a fantastic view of the beach, ensuring a very pleasant night's sleep. Service: The staff throughout our stay were consistently warm and accommodating. Areas for Improvement: Strict Outside Food Policy: We weren't aware that outside food and drinks were strictly prohibited. Because we caught the earliest boat ride and grabbed coffee and snacks for the trip, we had to stand outside to finish them before boarding. Underwhelming Dining: The food was a bit of a letdown for a resort of this caliber. The fish and chips we had for lunch were bland and had a strong, fishy (malansa) aftertaste. Breakfast Buffet: The breakfast had a great, varied selection for the main dishes, and the pastries were decent, but the coffee bar was incredibly slow. Final Verdict: You are truly paying for a gorgeous luxury resort and top-tier service. While the aesthetics and hospitality are excellent, the culinary experience definitely has room to improve.

Good to celebrate any occasions and really nice stay for sure we will come back. Actually this is our second time here. Nice food at morning catch eventhough abit pricey but its worth it.. T

We loved our 7-day stay at the hotel. The beach is beautiful and relaxing. There are 2 pools we can swim on with warm water. The chlorine is light so you don’t get burnt easily. The staff are friendly. You can really trust them because I left my wallet and laptop in the room many times but they were still there. Their pizzas are delicious! Areas to improve: the beds feel a bit itchy even if it’s freshly arranged. I had multiple mosquito bites while sleeping. The a/c keeps turning off every few hours because of power outages. The serving time at Haribar and Morning catch were too slow. We waited for more than 30 minutes. The staff said the order wasn’t entered. There’s a disconnect between the servers and the staff preparing the food and drinks. The housekeeper kept throwing out the toothbrushes and toothpaste daily even though they were stored on a cup. I wish they offered more than 3 viands to choose from on the daily buffet breakfast.

Our stay was fun, relaxing and peaceful. Samal island is so beautiful with city view across the ocean. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. The pools were warm even and relaxing to swim on under the hot sun at 2pm and even at night. There are no guests noises at night. The food selection was very limited and taste is so so. Everyday they serve tuna and longganisa during breakfast buffet which doesn’t match their luxurious brand. It was a great stay overall. I wish the kids sandbox area and their entertainment rooms were included in the room fee but they are all paid separately.

Discovery Samal Resort is such a lovely place to relax. The staff and the rooms are so nice! We will be back.
