The Feathers Hotel, Helmsley, North Yorkshire - The Coaching Inn Group

I stayed for two nights at the hotel. Excellent location. Room very comfortable but maybe in need of a freshen up in bedroom area. I was disturbed at about 7.00am both mornings by voices coming from somewhere nearby. I think there was a staff area adjacent to my room so thought the sounds could coming be coming from there. No fridge in room which was a shame given the warm weather during my stay. Staff very friendly and helpful. No lounge area for guests which is something I look for in a hotel. I did try to pop into the Pickwick Bar for a drink but it was so busy - I couldn't get near the bar so I left and found another pub to have a drink in.

Lovely location fab building .Room full of amenities .Downside very tired room marked walls and lampshades. Dirty grout and chrome in bathroom dusty marked skirting boards and stained carpet .Food good but no specials board .Just feel not up to scratch for what it costs

Fabulous hotel location although parking is tricky on market day (Friday). Hotel only has 5 parking spaces so we eventually parked on a nearby roadside for free. All hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. Evening pub food was good. Cooked breakfast meals were made to order - these were excellent. Our room was a standard room - a small room and on 2 levels with a step. Bathroom was very compact with sloping roof. Shower over bath was fitted next to sloping roof - so this made showering very difficult even at my height of 5' 5". My husband at 6' 2" struggled even more. Bathrobes were provided but would only fit size 8 - so at size 14 the robe wouldn't meet in the middle! We opted to be 'eco' and not have all the linens changed daily or a daily room clean - staff however provided generous amounts of replacement tea/coffee/water/toilet paper etc in a bag outside our room without us needing to ask. Oue room was above the public Pickwick Bar and as the weather was warm, customers were gathered outside until very late so the noise of chatter and music was a bit disturbing until late on Fri and Sat. Smoke from cigarettes wafted up into our room from time to time too. A new tv in the room - but the remote was not compatible with the tv - so we were advised to change channel/sound by getting up and physically pushing a button on the set, not great. We would have booked a deluxe room but there were only standard rooms available for our dates. The hotel was full so no point in asking for a room change during our stay. I would stay again but would definitely ask for a room at the back of the hotel and I would definitely go for a deluxe with walk-in shower. Although not perfect, we did enjoy our break in Helmsley. It is in an amazing part of the country and the town is really lovely and surrounding areas provide very beautiful scenery.
