I really enjoy the view from my room and there are a lot of sheep around the hostel (so there is some smell but acceptable). The location is 20-min walk from train station, a bit far but considering the price I think it is very worthy. And you can enjoy the mountain view and the starry sky at night! The room has a sink so it is convenient to wash face and brush teeth inside the room. But the stairs are a bit steep and narrow, which makes it hard to carry a big suitcase upstairs. Luckily I only got a backpack with me so it is not a problem. One bad thing is that you can hear the sound outside the room clearly and whenever people go up/down stairs, the noise is a bit loud.

There aren’t many affordable options in Flam. This one is pretty good. I stayed in the red house, room 10. I enjoyed the single beds in the dorm and the curtains were good for privacy. You could tell that the set up is a bit DIY. The curtains aren’t hemmed and the stairs are a bit rickety. Not the easiest to get a suitcase up. There was mould on the ceiling in the big bathroom on the second floor and the fan didn’t seem to work, water pooled by the door on the floor. No oven in the kitchen but microwave and stovetop. I only discovered that there was one hairdryer downstairs on my last day. The walk to flam is about 20 minutes but it’s not too bad. Best to use the shuttle service with your luggage.

We were there on the Holy Week holidays so there weren't any staff, but check-in/out instructions were quite clear; the room was ready, and the facilities were clean and in order. The ambiance of an old farmhouse made it a really authentic Norway countryside experience, and it's very close to the trailhead to Brekkefossen waterfalls.
