Hotel The Happy Traveler

This hotel is funky, great location, clean, staff are nice, the bed and room were great and the breakfast looked good. All the ingredients for a good stay. But the room I was in had the rooftop bar upstairs and a bar directly under the windows with music and loud chatting until well after midnight. If you plan to sleep after that that's fine. If you want an earlier night or a good night's sleep, probably not the hotel for you. I think the hotel suits younger travellers who are looking to experience the night life, and Groningen is definitely the place for it. Also, bike rental is 15 p/d, even though it was advertised as 10. That annoyed me a little.

This is my second stay at the The Happy Traveler, it is so convenient for visiting my daughter at Uni, near the centre and also a short walk from the train station. The hotel is quirky yet has all the comforts and cleanliness you would expect. Staff are friendly and understand and speak perfect English.

Super near to the Academic Building, University of Groningen.

It’s a perfect stay in the heart of Groningen. It's cosy, with a great atmosphere and surprisingly plenty of rooms. They mentioned that the area around the bar and student area will get noisy at night, so be mindful when you book. I personally don't have a problem with it. I slept fine. The room is big and has a nice interior. Highly recommend.
