Lakes Hotel & Spa

Hotel is an old renovated property with interior renovated to a good standard however the exterior looks really tired in places. For a 5 star hotel I was surprised by the following: 1. American Express not accepted 2. Rooms are not air conditioned 3. Room bathrooms have very basic showers with low water pressure 4. Queues (10mins) at both check-in and check-out 5. Bed mattress didn’t feel luxurious and wasn’t very comfortable…expected something far plusher for the standard of hotel 6. No fitness centre/gym Highlights were 1. Room views and balcony hot tub 2. Food quality, room service was particularly good although they can’t justify the £10 tray charge. 3. Bathroom amenities (Elemis) 4. Spa facilities are good 5. Staff friendly and approachable Overall a good stay but I would question the 5-star credentials

Staff all friendly and welcoming. The bedroom suite was quiet but too warm overnight. Comfy sofa and smart TV but bathroom was way too small with a tiny sink. Good shower though. There could have been some decaf tea bags and water in the rooms though bottles available from reception. Very good choices for breakfast though had to ask for decaf coffee. The spa are was a bit disappointing. Extremely dark, difficult to see let alone read. A bit crowded as people seem to spend hours in there drinking as there’s a poolside bar.

Fantastic 2 night stay from Boxing Day. Rooms superb and amazing location. Only slight moans, especially for price paid, is that at no stage during booking or when checked in were we told that it would be £12 a day to park car at hotel. This really should be advised but was not until we got the room bill on checkout. Also in the Spa there’s a couple loose tiles on the floor which need attention, and also some grill covers in the jacuzzi missing or loose which need replacing. Will definitely return but these things need sorting.

We stayed in small double room, slight few niggles . Bathroom slightly too small, light shade in room needs updating looks cheap. Advertising plaque for treatments on wall not necessary should just be put in welcome pack not hooked on a wall. Rooms felt 4 star not 5. Downstairs bar /restaurant lovely and would recommend. Pool smaller than expected but still very nice. All staff excellent 5 * for all staff!
