Guddadamane Homestay

Our stay at Gudadamane Resort was extremely disappointing. The rooms were in terrible condition, lacking even basic cleanliness and hygiene — dirty bedsheets, bathrooms in bad shape, and poorly maintained surroundings. Though they claim to be pet-friendly, they completely misled us. After reaching the property, they changed our room without proper reason and charged us an extra ₹3000 just because we brought our pet — and that’s without any pet food, bedding, or proper space. Absolutely no justification for this overcharge. We felt cheated and unwelcome. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone — especially not pet owners. You’ll be better off booking a transparent, better-maintained homestay elsewhere.

This is our first visit to Chikmagalur and we booked Guddadamane Homestay after checking many options on Agoda. Booking: Please remember that while booking this stay, the payment portion is NOT handled by Agoda. You'll hear from the owner Samanvith to pay an initial amount for confirmation even though you would have entered your card details while booking. We paid 50% through UPI after checking with Agoda and talking to Samanvith. Pre-Arrival: Samanvith greeted us an hour and a half before check-in time and asked for the exact room we'd like as there were multiple options for Standard room. We confirmed one. First the Cons: 1. There is a 12-Kilometer stretch while going to the homestay where the road is terrible. It is almost as if half of the road was washed away in floods. Even people who walk can cover this distance faster than a 4-wheeler. To top this, the full road, even if it were laid perfectly, would fit only one single truck perfectly. This is not the homestay's fault but one that can't be ignored as well. 2.. You don't need an alarm to wake up in the morning as there are 3 dogs which will start barking the "living daylights out" in the early morning :) 3. In the open space beside the room (which is beside the kitchen) is where all patrons usually have their breakfast and dinner and there is lot of commotion during the morning and night when they are being served. If you want it little isolated, book any other room. The one with grill balcony is the ideal one. 4. If you are coming to visit places in Chikmagalur, do remember that this may not be the ideal stay as you might have to travel a lot from here to other places.This is easily 10-15 kilometers away from the main center. The Pros: 1. The Stay: Very nice outdoor view - full of trees, plants and a small lake. It was raining on our first day, which made the view even more beautiful to look at. Evening conversations can stretch into hours easily munching on food with that view. Liked the fact that there were multiple chairs provided so that many can sit and admire the view simultaneously. 2. Friendly Staff: Ravi kept tab of all people who visited the stay and served them with whatever they wanted. He takes care of day-to-day requests well. Geeta and others who assisted Ravi also play their part well. 3. Clean Homestay with basic facilities intact: Hot water is usually available with the turn of a tap. Bathroom is clean with tiling and good fittings. Soap (for bath) and liquid soap for hand cleaning were provided. Room with clean bed and basic furniture was decent. Mosquito repellent was provided - very thoughtful AND proved useful as well. 4. Cute Dogs: The golden retriever greeted us when we first arrived. But after that the dogs kept to themselves and do not disturb us/other patrons in any way whatsoever. 5. Food: No major complaints. Breakfast is good and tasty! Dinner and snacks (at additional cost) are decent. Thank you to Samanvith for running a nice homestay. I know that I listed some cons. But I did it so that others can have the right expectations while booking this place. I had a great stay though, despite the cons. Thank you!
