Very undecided how to rate this hotel, 5/5 purely for the customer service from the staff, they went above and beyond to help in whichever way they could. However, the rooms and facilities were very dated, the walls were very thin and we got a poor night's sleep as whenever anyone walked past our room door, the floor would actually shake. The beds were uncomfortable, but there were really nice touches added to the rooms such as sachets of hot chocolate and shortbread biscuits. The view from the lounge overlooking the bay was also lovely. Breakfast was fresh and varied with hot and cold options as well as pastries. The hotel could do with a renovation because in every other way it was perfect.

Not enough staff
Overall a good stay however it should be noted that during our 1 night staff, the hotel was being run on minimum staffing which lead to issues with service times. The 1 receptionist was also covering the bar - slow service, especially when a guest wanted to be shown the different rooms available. I saw 1 housekeeper during the stay, 1 chef in the kitchen and 2 front of house (where 1 was clearly training). All staff were very pleasant - no direct criticism of them. However, having opted to dine in the restaurant, the lack of staff meant service was slow. 55miutes from sitting down to food being delivered to the table. We ordered fish & chips, Balmoral chicken (both ok, but could've cooked the same at home) and the filled pasta - swimming in water as pasta not drained fully, very bland sauce. We ended up only having 1 course as after clearing the plates the staff never returned for desert orders - eventually just gave up waiting. Very disappointing. I did complain about this at check out and was given a complimentary bottle of wine. Plus points - we used the pool and steam room - good sized pool which we actually had sole use of. Free parking to the rear of hotel (though not a large car park) in addition to a few spaces at the front.
