Pro.. Location. The quiestest side of the island ,hiking straight from the door to the Akamas . We hired a 4 x 4 car so did several trips, some by car to blue lagoon and then hiked to the lighthouse area plus did the standard walking trails . I mentioned on the walk to be shown our room that we wanted to hike and within 15 mins there was a knock at the door and a man handed me an envelope with a number of leaflets about walks locally and on the island. That was impressive service . Great views from every where, good watersports and sea swimming The big indoor and 3 outdoor pools were all lovely . Best breakfasts ever, In the end we gave up on the cooked breakfasts which were very good but the nuts, fruits, yoghurts,granolas etc jams, honeys were absolutely outstanding and we couldnt fit both ! Doria told us on our first morning that there was everything and she wasnt wrong ! Kept us going until dinner every night. Facilities Everywhere spotless, all staff lovely and attentive . Staff leave you tiny cakes at about 6pm and then turn up again later to turn down beds and leave a flower and a profound quote . The bathrooms have large size bottles of bubble bath, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner which was great for avoiding loads of usual hotel tiny plastic bottles and brilliant for when you are in the sea every day and have long hair. Also smelt lovely and orangy. Cons... costs ...unless you have money to burn miss the formal dining room for dinner and head 12 minutes down the road to Polis to The Herb Garden. We had 3 course meals for 2 people for less than a single main course cost at the formal hotel dining room . Fruit bowls in the room.. on first day we had a great packet of dried apricots and figs as well as selection of banana and apple..never saw any more of those and often fruit wasnt topped up at all unless totally empty. Anassa: Goddess by name, goddess-less in nature. Don’t believe the PR hype, which hums along on a much higher vibrator setting than the establishment it promotes. The literature promises a €10 million transformation. Granted, the natural setting is beautiful, but that lavish makeover was strictly rationed to the luxury suites, leaving the standard rooms stubbornly abandoned. If the objective was to hide tired quarters behind a gorgeously updated main facade, they hit the jackpot. Our quarters bypassed the modern miracle of sanitation. Used glassware became permanent room fixtures, water went unreplenished, and the hoover failed to make an appearance. This, presumably, is the ‘care felt in every detail’ we paid for. Further downstream, the core amenities suffer a similar lack of scale. For an estate of 166 keys, the gym feels no larger than a walk-in wardrobe, populated by a few lonely weights—left to linger as a corporate afterthought. Abandoned in our quest for caffeine, it required three diplomatic approaches to secure assistance. Drifting through her shift with a casual swagger and a smartphone grafted to her palm, "Becky with the Blonde Hair" exuded the distinct energy of a teenager being forced to clean her bedroom. She eventually delivered a plate of thirty coffee capsules with a sarcastic grin and a massive, subliminal middle finger. The true artistic punchline? Every single capsule was decaf. While regular clients naturally absorb reception staff attention, allowing a massive breakfast queue to choke the entrance while the system paralyses is poor choreography. Management either needs to get better at rowing, or hire more staff. Even the evening entertainment leaned into the melancholy: a talented guitar player whose entire repertoire sounded profoundly depressing, perfectly summing up the mood. The tragedy is that Anassa operates at two extreme poles. While some staff act as pure dead weight, others work tirelessly to carry the hotel's entire reputation. One exceptional gentleman at breakfast, hearing my partner was unwell, proactively sent fresh fruit to our room. Yet prior to his arrival, three separate tables had walked out because their drinks appeared to be crossing the Mediterranean by drift-bottle. Approach with caution. In spite of the marketing machine's high vibrator setting, there’s no happy ending here; even the resident cats looked like they were planning a mutiny. While the food is perfectly good, Anassa is simply not worth the exorbitant premium when true luxury has long since checked out. If this satisfies the entry criteria for The Leading Hotels of the World, then their inspection committee must have been deeply sedated, if not already undergoing rigor mortis.
