I had a great experience at Hotel Schöneberg, and I'd definitely stay there again next time I'm in Berlin. Pros: - Charm! Personally, I prefer a well-maintained older building with character that feels like an organic part of the city over a generic, cookie-cutter modern hotel with more amenities and less personality. If you're looking for a sleek, bougie hotel experience I'd look elsewhere but if you (like me) want a comfortable, clean, safe, charming home base while exploring Berlin, this is a great choice. -Staff. Everyone there was kind, friendly, and helpful. Every staff member I encountered spoke excellent English, which was a pleasant surprise for all involved since I didn't want to torment anyone with my painfully slow and clumsy German. -Location. Schöneberg is a charming neighborhood and public transit makes it a breeze to get from there to other parts of the city. That said, if you want to stay in the hubbub of the city center, look for something closer in. There's fantastic gemüse kebab across the street, top notch croissants a few doors down, a *non-euronet* ATM next door (hallelujah!), a bus stop a few strides from the hotel entrance, and a laundromat on the next block, to name just a few perks of the location. Cons: -Breakfast. I will admit the morning food spread is a notably less enticing than what's in the pictures (the photo on the website shows melons, pineapple, berries, a beautiful meat spread... dang that would've been nice). In reality cold cereal was the most filling thing available, there was no meat available, and fresh fruit was limited to a few bunches of grapes and some un-ripe apples and pears). I give it credit as a snack to start the day with but wouldn't go far enough as to call it "breakfast". There's lots of great food nearby so as long as the breakfast buffet isn't a crucial part of your meal strategy you won't miss it. Tip: If you can nab a room with a window facing Haupstraße, do it. I'm sure the view facing back into the courtyard is nice in its own way but the people-watching from my room was top notch.
