This is a lovely traditional hotel full of character with friendly staff and in a superb location, but sadly is *completely* *over-run* with dogs. I will not be staying there again. If you're a dog-lover travelling with your pets, you will likely love this place; if not, then stay away.

We stayed here two years ago and had a lovely time, so we decided to come back. Alas the stay this time was lacking. We were in an inland room (no big deal) but the room had nowhere to put anything down, no desk, no shelf in the bathroom for your bits and bobs. The Basin tap was hardly connected to the sink, the chest of drawers top was all battered in the edge and tatty. On the first morning the water was shut off (luckily we had showered). We got moved to the main hotel fortunately. The last time we stayed the menu was fantastic, alas this time it was very limited was two of the starters unavailable when we sat down to eat. I think the explanation for this is the hotel has been sold and is due to be remodeled in it's entirety so no money is being spent on upkeep and I'm sorry to say it shows. In all a bit disappointing and took the edge of the birthday celebrations.

Been coming here as a family for 66 years and not sure it’s changed that much. If you are looking for 5 star everything, this isn’t the hotel for you; if you want tolerance for kids and dogs and a more ‘anything goes’ attitude, it’s great. The staff are hit and miss - either delightful and helpful or some are more on the fawlty towers side of life (ie ‘go to the bar to find what you want’ and then on my unsuccessful return ‘oh I knew it wasn’t open’) The bedroom we were in in the manning house was like going back to the 70s; artex ceilings etc. no fridge, a coffee making table which was about 10 inches off the floor and a radiator which I think must have needed bleeding as it made a racket ALL night long. Great food. Games room for kids, bar and separate quiet bar. Lovely place for a family get together.

Hotel is located with a view over beautiful Studland Bay and has great history. Restaurant food was very good. Room quite small and bathroom a little outdated for the money. Fantastic facilities.

Knoll House is a very old hotel and in need of TLC the room that we stayed in was very modern and up to date. When we arrived both radiators were not working and unfortunately the maintenance team had gone home. They moved us into another room overnight and in the morning they informed us that the radiators were back up and running, so we moved back in and found they were red hot, unfortunately the thermostatic valve on the one radiator was not working so you could not adjust the heat. I informed the receptionist and they sent the maintenance man over who was not able to replace the thermostatic valve with a replacement so he cap it off which meant it didn’t work at all 🤣 fortunately we had the other radiator and that was sufficient. I believe talking to other residents in the hotel they had similar issues. Overall the staff and location and food were excellent. They were all doing there best to keep the hotel going best they could.
