My wife and I booked the Elmer for a two night stay. On arrival, the staff member gave us our keys but couldn't show us to our room as they were short staffed and couldn't leave the bar. The evening food was very good as was the full english breakfast in the morning. The room was nice with a comfortable bed. The shower was really powerful. There was a small kettle and a handful of tea and coffee samples but just 4 small UHT milk pots (which was not enough). The TV was suitable for our stay. The room was clean. Our only issue was the fact that our room (Room 1) was directly above the rear entrance which was a spring closing door which banged EVERY time a guest went outside for any reason - this would happen probably at least every few minutes after we went to bed (about 10:30pm) and kept us awake until after the pub closed about 12:45am It was really loud in our room and had we planned for more than 2 nights we would have asked to move rooms. We would not stay in Room 1 (or the room next to it) again. We would however stay again if another room was suitable and not in earshot of the back door closing.

Firstly, the staff were unbelievable. Incredibly friendly and helpful, you could feel that they genuinely cared about all customers enjoying their time on premises. The room was clean and well appointed, although both the bed and pillows were a bit hard for my preference (which is usually medium-hard as it is). Breakfast was excellent and plentiful and was freshly cooked to order each morning. Now the tough part. I wouldn’t stay here again. If you’re a moderately light sleeper it’s unlikely you’ll get a restful night here. The rooms are directly above the main bar and the floors have very little noise protection. I understand that at a pub stay there is likely to be some noise, but this was a bit much. My earplugs and white noise couldn’t block it out. Most nights it stopped around 23:00, but on my final night it went well past 00:30. A shame as if not for that, I’d love to come back.

Quiet single room with a double bed. Very friendly, attentive staff. Clean and comfortable throughout. Very good breakfast.

Loved this gem of a pub/hotel.The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean.Had the best Roast Dinner with delicious Yorkshire Puddings Huge servings.Friendly staff.
