The Great Western Arms

Food was very good. Room was comfortable and a good size. Bed was v uncomfortable and creaky. Arrived back late evening to find at least a dozen wood louse on the floor of the room. Not so concerned as it was a ground floor room in a country hotel. We put them out the window. A more concerning issue was the number of dogs that were in the bar and restaurant areas. At our neighbouring table there were four adults and three large dogs. One owner informed us that her dogs were well behave as it jumped up towards my companion seated for lunch. Two of the dogs then had a barking and snarling fight in the middle of the dining area, then after being pulled apart by their owners lay inconveniently on the floor, causing the waiting staff to have to step over them and around them to take orders and to serve tables often with plates of hot food in their hands. The owners made no attempt to move the obstructing dogs. May I suggest the management designate an area of the bar for dogs and their owners, away from where people are dining, or make sure dogs are left outside. The dog owning party could easily have had their lunch in the accommodating garden and patio areas as the day was warm , calm and bright. There were a number of diners in our indoor area that were also offended by the presence and behaviour of the dogs, and their owners inability to leave them out of the dining area or properly control them. I suggest dogs should not be permitted in the dining areas of these premises.
